Kingdom Come: Deliverance 2 is a long, often challenging journey filled with fascinating adventures, fierce battles, and blood-saturated betrayal. However, it's also a story that begins in a small forge with an unassuming protagonist and eventually circles back to that very place — at least, that's what its upcoming Legacy of the Forge DLC seems to promise. As the expansion takes players back to Henry's origins and offers them the chance to help him rebuild the blacksmithing legacy of his adoptive father, Kingdom Come: Deliverance 2's Legacy of the Forge DLC could be one of the game's most emotional stories yet.
Kingdom Come: Deliverance has never shied away from emotionally charged narratives, with the events of the first game even being driven by tragedy and loss. Now, it seems as though Legacy of the Forge will be keeping that tradition going as it looks back to one of the main reasons the first game's story was so tragic to begin with. However, it could take that storytelling philosophy even further, not by adding even more death and pain to Henry's journey, but by sweetening its end with a surprise visit from a loved one, simultaneously drawing inspiration from The Witcher 3's Blood and Wine expansion.
Legacy of the Forge Could Copy One of The Witcher 3's Most Iconic Romance Moments
Blood and Wine Ended With a Visit That Mattered
One of the most surprising things about The Witcher 3's Blood and Wine expansion wasn't its monsters or plot twists but how peacefully it ended. After everything Geralt had been through, players were presented with a quiet scene where their chosen love interest for Geralt (or Ciri, depending on their choices) arrived at the vineyard the Witcher now called home. There was no big speech or exposition, but a simple moment of stillness and reflection. It let players breathe for a beat, and in doing so, it recontextualized the whole journey as a life Geralt had long fought to get back to.
On an even simpler note, though, the final moments of Blood and Wine acknowledged the player's past decisions without over-explaining anything. Yennefer, Triss, Ciri, or even Dandelion would simply show up at the vineyard, serving not just as a heartwarming visit, but also as a statement of the choices players made up to that point. The presence of that individual was enough to serve as the perfect sendoff for Geralt and his player-made story. Now, even though Legacy of the Forge isn't the end of Henry's story in Kingdom Come: Deliverance 2, it would be remiss not to try something similar.
Henry’s Forge Could Set the Stage for the Same Thing
The forge setting in Legacy of the Forge already seems somewhat similar to Geralt's vineyard in The Witcher 3. While it might not be the same forge where Henry's story began, his journey did nonetheless start at a forge with his father. In that case, just as the Blood and Wine vineyard was to Geralt, the rebuilt forge could be the place where Henry is visited by a loved one. Whether that figure is Theresa, Katherine, Margaret, Hans Capon, or someone else would ultimately depend on the choices players made up to that point, but it would serve as both a statement and a full-circle moment all the same.
Legacy of the Forge doesn't need a dramatic twist or another final tragedy to make a lasting impression. While its gameplay may be the one to accomplish that, it could be just as powerful for one of Henry's love interests to show up at the expansion's conclusion, especially if players finally get to own a house in Kingdom Come: Deliverance 2's Legacy of the Forge DLC.
