2025 has been chock-full of great games, but only a few have come close to making as big a splash as Warhorse Studios' Kingdom Come: Deliverance 2. Its legacy is far from over too, as the ripples of that splash when it launched in February are still drifting toward the end of the year, with two DLCs confirmed and on the way, and potentially even more to come after. If there's one thing that's clear, it's that Kingdom Come: Deliverance 2 is only just getting started, especially if its Legacy of the Forge DLC comes in with a swing wide enough to make its following even larger than it already is.

It may be six months old at this point, but there has arguably never been a better time to play Kingdom Come: Deliverance 2 than right now. With its Brushes With Death DLC now behind it, all eyes are gazing intently ahead at Legacy of the Forge, which is expected to be similar in scope to the first game's From the Ashes expansion. Currently, Kingdom Come: Deliverance 2's Legacy of the Forge DLC is slated for an Autumn 2025 launch, which puts it, at the very least, just a little over a month away. In other words, those who want to be adequately prepared for that DLC should start playing Kingdom Come: Deliverance 2 now.

Gamescom 2025 Confirms Legacy of the Forge Is Closer Than Expected

As of right now, Warhorse Studios has kept Legacy of the Forge mostly under wraps, revealing only that the DLC will see players rebuilding a once-renowned Kuttenberg forge with a narrative that revolves around the legacy of Henry's adoptive father, Martin. The expansion is also expected to take Kingdom Come: Deliverance 2's blacksmithing to the next level, as that will presumably be a core focus of its gameplay. However, the developer has promised a big reveal for Legacy of the Forge at this year's Gamescom, which begins on August 20 and ends on August 24.

With so little information about the DLC, there has been plenty of room for speculation about what it could add to the base game. If it truly is similar in scope to Kingdom Come: Deliverance's From the Ashes DLC, Legacy of the Forge could offer players an entire blacksmithing tycoon that allows them to not only rebuild and manage a forge, but also build and own a fully customizable home for Henry. There is also already a perfect setting for Kingdom Come: Deliverance 2's Legacy of the Forge DLC in the game currently — a location in the Kuttenberg region called "Abandoned Forge" that has a forge, tavern, and another building that are ripe for restoration.

KCD2's Massive Learning Curve and Campaign Needs a Head Start to Be Ready in Time

Regardless of what Legacy of the Forge brings to the table, however, it's important that players take this time as an opportunity to get back into Kingdom Come: Deliverance 2, and for those who have yet to play it to hop on the saddle sooner rather than later. Those who have yet to return to Kingdom Come: Deliverance 2 since they played it at or closer to launch may want to give themselves a chance to reacquaint themselves with the game and potentially even level up their Craftsmanship skill to prepare for Legacy of the Forge.

But this especially applies to those who have yet to play Kingdom Come: Deliverance 2 and have plans to start at some point, as the game's massive learning curve and campaign take quite a bit of time to get used to and complete, respectively. Kingdom Come: Deliverance 2's campaign doesn't necessarily need to be completed for players to be able to enjoy or even play Legacy of the Forge, but with the forge being in Kuttenberg, players will presumably at least need to progress the story up to the point that Kuttenberg is fully unlocked as an explorable region. If they focus on that and even complete some of the game's side content, they should be ready for Legacy of the Forge when it arrives this fall.
