As the name would suggest, Shrines are places of worship in Kingdom Come: Deliverance 2, where people come to pray to the divine. But at the end of the day, Henry is just a peasant and barely knows his letters, let alone how to properly pray at a Shrine. And KCD 2 is realistic if nothing else.
Interacting with a Shrine is only possible if players invest the proper time and effort into making Henry a man of the faith, a task harder than it seems.

What Are Shrines in Kingdom Come: Deliverance 2
Shrines are special points of interest that can only be interacted with after Henry obtains the Fundamentals of Theology perk from the Scholarship skill. This perk becomes available at level 14 Scholarship and can be picked up using a perk point.
You will need to obtain the Liberal Arts perk first before Fundamentals of Theology becomes available.
Praying at a Shrine gives Henry a long-lasting buff that gives him miraculous protection in combat. If Henry has this buff active and takes a mortal injury in combat, the negative debuff will be entirely nullified, and he will regain 25% of his health. This buff lasts for 12 in-game hours, and it fades after a single use, though you can reapply it by praying at a Shrine again.
Fundamentals of Theology allows Henry to not only pray at Shrines but at crosses and churches as well.
How to Level Up Scholarship in Kingdom Come: Deliverance 2
In Kingdom Come: Deliverance 2, Scholarship can be increased in three main ways.
- Reading Books: You can buy books from Scribes or find them in NPC homes. Each book requires a certain amount of time to be read, requiring Henry to allot some time from his day to spend on this activity. You can speed up reading time by increasing the Scholarship skill or through Scholarship perks.
- Using Scholarship Dialogue: If you have a certain level of Scholarship already, Scholarship dialogue options will start appearing during conversations. Selecting this dialogue will earn you some Scholarship XP.
- Learning new Knowledge: Exploring the open world of KCD 2 offers many rewards, and one of them is an increase in Scholarship whenever Henry uncovers a historical fact or makes a relevant discovery. These are more common than you might think.
Picking the Adviser playstyle at the start of the story gives a small boost to Scholarship as well.
