Summary

  • Finding books in KCD2 can be challenging; look for scribes, places of interest, and locked chests.
  • Scribes in Troskowitz and Kuttenberg offer various skill books for sale to boost Henry's skills.
  • Explore the world for skill books in places of interest and chests; pickpocketing keys or leveling Thievery can help access locked chests.

Books are one of the best ways to level up Henry's skills in Kingdom Come: Deliverance 2. The only problem is that books can be pretty hard to find through Trosky and Kuttenberg. In Kingdom Come: Deliverance, players could rely on finding books at certain merchants, but that isn't always the case in the sequel.

Kingdom Come: Deliverance 2 has scattered books throughout the map, so finding them isn't always straightforward. Yet, players must find and read books to gain XP in certain skills quickly. If players want to start unlocking the hardest locks, for example, they're going to need to boost their Thievery skill as fast as possible. Reading a book can help them accomplish that goal.

When it comes to finding skill books in Kingdom Come: Deliverance 2, the following are the best places to look:

  • Scribes
  • Places of Interest
  • Locked Chests

Not every place of interest or chest will have a book inside it, but if players notice one, it's worth investigating. Most often, the chests that have books in them are locked, so players will need to work on their Thievery skill to gain access to some books.

Where To Find Scribes in Kingdom Come: Deliverance 2

One of the best places to get a lot of skill books in Kingdom Come: Deliverance 2 is a scribe. Players may remember a handful of scribes in Kingdom Come: Deliverance. That isn't quite the case in Kingdom Come: Deliverance 2. There are only three scribes in the entire game. Each has a different collection of books, too, so it's worth visiting each.

Players can encounter the first scribe in the starting village, Troskowitz. His name is Scribe Gaibl, and he works in the Rathaus. Players can buy the following books from him:

  • Fable of the Fox and the Pitcher
  • How Good Mead is Brewed
  • King Sigismund of Hungary
  • On Old Father Czech
  • Prayer to Saint Wenceslas
  • The Cat and the Poet
  • Life in the Saddle I
  • Life in the Tavern I
  • Marathon I
  • Master's studies I
  • Most Faithful Friend I
  • On the Composition of Alchemy I
  • Products of Skilled Hands I
  • Spearman Training I
  • The Art of Demosthenes I
  • Towards Flexibility of the Body I

When players travel to the Kuttenberg region, there are two scribes available. Both scribes live in the city of Kuttenberg, and conveniently enough, they reside across from each other. Players can easily visit one, and then head across the street to visit the other shop.

Scribe Tietz Vetter is on the western side of the road. Players can purchase the following books from him:

  • About Saint Dorothy
  • Atalanta, maiden to men equal
  • Charles IV
  • Metamorphoses IV
  • On Old Father Czech
  • On Simony
  • On Tournaments
  • Composition of Alchemy II
  • Master's Studies II
  • Most Faithful Friend II
  • The Art of Demosthenes II
  • Towards flexibility of the body II
  • Woodsman's Journal II

Janek the Scribbler resides on the eastern side of the road in Kuttenberg. Players can buy the following books from him:

  • Canzoniere
  • Historia Troiana
  • On the Margraviate Wars
  • The Czech Campaign to Lombardy II
  • The Kingdom of Bohemia
  • The Peculiar Siege of Prague
  • Wenceslas IV
  • Ye Wicked Blacksmiths
  • Marathon II
  • Master's Studies II
  • Products of skilled hands II
  • Spearman Training II
  • The Art of Demosthenes II
  • The Art of the Sword II

Clearly, although Scribes have a good number of books for players to buy and use to boost Henry's skills, they don't have a complete collection. To get all the books, players will need to explore the world of Kingdom Come: Deliverance 2.

Where To Get Books in the World in Kingdom Come: Deliverance 2

Book on Bench in KCD2

Since scribes only offer so many books, players will need to head out into the world to find others. Players should always investigate specific landmarks and chests to see if books are in them.

These are locations on the map that have some sort of name or description attached to them. Players can sometimes find a book out in the open or carefully hidden in these areas. For example, if players head to the "Bench Under Trosky" place of interest to the east of Troskowitz, they'll find The Art of Demosthenes II just lying on the bench, which is great for leveling up Henry's Speech skill.

Places of interest typically have a treasure or something valuable within them. Players may just need to spend some extra time in these locations to see if a skill book is stashed away somewhere.

The other place players should always look for a skill book is inside locked chests. There are dozens of locked chests scattered about Kingdom Come: Deliverance 2. Skill books can sometimes be one of the valuable items that Henry can find in them.

The problem is that locked chests can vary in difficulty. If players don't have Henry's Thievery skill leveled up, then gaining access to some of the skill books may be impossible for a while. One way around this bottleneck is to try to pickpocket keys from villagers who own the chest. If Henry's Thievery is too low even for that, then players may need to try a more aggressive approach.

To ensure the villager doesn't catch Henry, players should sneak up behind them and knock them out. Once they're unconscious, players should steal the keys to the chest, and then quickly unlock it before they awaken. It's a last-ditch method for those who don't have time to wait around and keep leveling their Thievery.

Keep in mind that villagers will notice that their keys are missing. Players will want to grab the items in the chest before the villager switches the lock out with a new set of keys.

While not every locked chest will have a skill book in it, it's always worth checking just in case. Players who can quickly grab these skill books and have Henry read them will boost his skills fast, making some of the later challenges and quests in Kingdom Come: Deliverance 2 just a bit easier.
