Kingdom Come: Deliverance 2's Legacy of the Forge DLC is quite literally arriving sooner rather than later, as it is currently slated for a September 9 launch, despite initially being scheduled for an Autumn 2025 release. The highly anticipated expansion will bring along with it a healthy number of requested additions, including a customizable home for Henry, more ways to make a pretty penny, and, of course, a new story revolving around the legacy of Henry's adoptive father, Martin. And that's not all either, as there is yet one other major request that Kingdom Come: Deliverance 2's Legacy of the Forge DLC aims to fulfill.
One of the loudest fan requests has been that Kingdom Come: Deliverance 2 add a home for Henry to live in, rather than players continuously needing to travel to a tavern to sleep in a room there. That feature is still going to be present in the game, but now, at least players will be able to not only have a more personal abode for their beloved protagonist, but they will also be given the chance to customize it, with over 100 million combinations. However, with Legacy of the Forge clearly emphasizing Kingdom Come: Deliverance 2's blacksmithing, one other confirmed feature may be even more welcome.
Legacy of the Forge Finally Brings Armor Crafting to Kingdom Come: Deliverance 2
Armor Crafting Has Long Been Requested
Since Kingdom Come: Deliverance 2's launch earlier this year, many fans have longed to be able to forge their own armor. The armor in the game is great, especially the sets that can be acquired in the late game, but there's arguably nothing quite like crafting one's own armor and personalizing its stats and potentially even its appearance in an RPG. Even without the ability to customize the stats or appearance of armor, crafting it still gives it that personal touch than earning it as a quest or exploration reward doesn't have.
Up to this point, Kingdom Come: Deliverance 2 has only allowed players to craft weapons, as Henry is a weaponsmith rather than an armorsmith. However, according to the DLC's description on the Xbox store, players will be able to "unlock unique blueprints for new armor and weapons" in Legacy of the Forge. At first glance, that makes it seem as though players will be able to craft their own armor in the expansion. However, that is simply not the case, as Kingdom Come: Deliverance 2 is still just as committed to realism as it always has been.
A Compromise Between Realism and Gameplay Depth
To clear some things up, Kingdom Come: Deliverance 2's communications director, Tobias "Sir Tobi" Stolz-Zwilling, recently clarified that players would not be able to craft armor themselves in Legacy of the Forge, as Henry is still just a weaponsmith. Instead, they will be hiring an armorsmith to do the work for them. As such, the blueprints that players unlock will be turned in to said armorsmith, and while it's unfortunate that they will not be able to do the crafting themselves, they will still have a hand in what is made and will finally get the custom armor feature they've been asking for in Kingdom Come: Deliverance 2.
Given everything else that Kingdom Come: Deliverance 2's Legacy of the Forge DLC is adding to the game, not being able to craft armor firsthand but still being given the opportunity to acquire custom armor is hardly a downside. If anything, it just shows how the medieval RPG is still committed to historical authenticity and realism, which is more important to the franchise than simply catering to fans.
