It's hard to imagine a game like Kingdom Come: Deliverance 2 fitting even more content into an already jam-packed package, but Warhorse Studios is delivering a major new update for the game just over a month after launch. The upcoming 1.2 update for Kingdom Come: Deliverance 2 is set to release on March 13, and features some much-anticipated improvements that could drastically shake up the game. This update seems to be just the start of Kingdom Come: Deliverance 2's future, and it seems to be getting off on the right foot.
The roadmap for Kingdom Come: Deliverance 2 features a healthy mix of both free and paid DLC, including three expansions set to release over the course of the next year. Brushes with Death, Legacy of the Forge, and Mysteria Ecclesiae are the three paid DLCs for Kingdom Come: Deliverance 2 with tentative release windows of Summer, Autumn, and Winter 2025, respectively. However, the first wave of free content seems to be coming with update 1.2, some of which could be more exciting than the paid expansions.
Kingdom Come: Deliverance 2 Could Be the Skyrim of the Next Decade
With its open-ended gameplay, living and breathing world, and mod potential, Kingdom Come: Deliverance 2 might become the Skyrim of the next decade.
Kingdom Come: Deliverance 2's 1.2 Update is Set to Refresh the Game in Some Key Ways
Update 1.2 Adds New Customization Options Via Barber Mode
Compared to other RPGs, the customization options available for Kingdom Come: Deliverance 2 at launch were rather slim. Protagonist Henry is a rather established character in the series, so there isn't too much room for Kingdom Come: Deliverance 2 players to customize his appearance other than choosing what clothes he wears. However, update 1.2 is set to take Henry's appearance customization options with Barber Mode.
With this update, players will be able to give Henry a new hairstyle by visiting a barber in either Zhelejov or Kuttenberg, donning one of several different hair and beard options. The original Kingdom Come: Deliverance gained the ability to change Henry's hairstyle in a post-launch update as well, so it's a bit strange that Kingdom Come: Deliverance 2 didn't launch with this mode. Although it's unclear just how in-depth this feature will be, KCD2's penchant for taking things slowly and methodically with mechanics like blacksmithing and alchemy could mean an immersive barber simulator is on the way.
While a Hardcore Mode has been confirmed for Kingdom Come: Deliverance 2, it seems like this mode will not be included in update 1.2.
Mod Support Could Be the Game-Changer Kingdom Come: Deliverance 2 Needs
While the ability to change hairstyles for Henry is a welcome addition, the most exciting part of update 1.2 is the introduction of mod support for Kingdom Come: Deliverance 2. Despite already containing a massive amount of official content, modding support for Kingdom Come: Deliverance 2 opens the door for the community to run wild with fan-created content and even more customization options for Henry's appearance via mods. A game like Skyrim has stood the test of time thanks in part to the community support it has received from modders, and Kingdom Come: Deliverance 2 seems on track to follow in these same footsteps.
Mod support will only be available for PC players via Steamworks.
Other bug fixes and improvements to NPC behavior are also planned for Kingdom Come: Deliverance 2's 1.2 update—though it's unclear what exactly these changes entail—but players can still look forward to this update further refining what is already a polished game. As Warhorse Studios continues to deliver on the game's roadmap plans, it's likely that KCD2 will only improve in the coming months. With update 1.2 starting its post-launch support off with a bang and bringing some of the community's most-requested features, the future of Kingdom Come: Deliverance 2 is looking bright and could cement it as an early Game of the Year contender.
