Kingdom Come: Deliverance 2's Legacy of the Forge DLC is finally almost here, and it's arriving sooner than expected, at that. Initially, the game's second expansion wasn't supposed to launch until Autumn 2025, but Warhorse pulled a fast one on fans when it announced that Legacy of the Forge would be launching on September 9, 2025, almost two weeks before autumn even begins. After Legacy of the Forge, Kingdom Come: Deliverance 2 still has its third DLC, Mysteria Ecclesiae, ahead of it, but beyond that, it looks like things could be rather grim for the medieval RPG.
Mysteria Ecclesiae has already been touted by Warhorse as Kingdom Come: Deliverance 2's biggest expansion yet, as it will introduce an entirely new region to the game, along with the narrative and content that comes with it. For all intents and purposes, that sounds like grand finale material, but it still hasn't been outright confirmed whether the game's third DLC really will be its last or not. However, a recent major update seems to suggest that Kingdom Come: Deliverance 2's legacy will come to an end after Mysteria Ecclesiae's launch, as well as that of its beloved protagonist, Henry of Skalitz.
Tom McKay's Final Mocap for KCD2 Sparks Questions About the Game's Future
Tom McKay's Last Day in the Studio
In a recent post on X, Warhorse Studios announced that Tom McKay, the actor behind Henry's voice and physical appearance, had just finished his "last day in the booth and on the mocap stage" for Kingdom Come: Deliverance 2. The post then went on to mention how McKay had been "giving life to Henry" for "nearly 9 years." In honor of the actor's hard work, Warhorse threw him a surprise party in what certainly seemed like a deeply emotional moment, as it heavily implies Henry's story might be ending with Kingdom Come: Deliverance 2's third DLC.
Now, this could very well be the end of Tom McKay's work on Kingdom Come: Deliverance 2 and not necessarily the end of his work on the franchise as a whole. However, the wording of Warhorse Studios' X post sure makes it sound as though the actor will no longer be used in the series. At the very least, it strongly suggests that Kingdom Come: Deliverance 2's Mysteria Ecclesiae DLC truly will be the game's final chapter.
Is This the End or Just an Intermission?
To make matters even harder to swallow, Tom McKay himself almost outright stated in a personal post on X that he would not be returning to work on Kingdom Come: Deliverance 2 or any game or DLC in the series for that matter. McKay made said post a "day before [his] final DLC 3 voice over session" and also called it his "last ever session for @KingdomComeRPG." Again, while he could be saying it's his last ever session for the sequel, "last ever" makes it sound as though he will not be returning to the franchise at all from here on out.
This could be alluding to nothing more than a major intermission between Kingdom Come: Deliverance 2's third DLC and the next game in the series, but it unfortunately seems highly unlikely. While Henry is not expected to die in Mysteria Ecclesiae, the expansion could still close the book on the character's story and leave Kingdom Come: Deliverance 3 with the job of introducing an entirely new protagonist. That would be a sad day, for sure, but it would be understandable, considering how far Henry has come, and the fact that Kingdom Come: Deliverance 2's ending officially brings his initial journey to a conclusion.
