Both Kingdom Hearts 1 and Kingdom Hearts 2 got an additional secret ending when the Final Mix editions of the game came out. You can still see the original secret ending, but the requirements varied based on the difficulty you played the game on.
Kingdom Hearts 2: Final Mix dialed up the difficulty significantly, and it is no trivial matter to unlock the new secret ending. If you are curious as to how you can see the ending for yourself rather than watching it on YouTube, here is what you need to do to see the secret ending of Kingdom Hearts 2: Final Mix.

Kingdom Hearts - Final Mix: Secret Ending Guide
There are two secret endings in Kingdom Hearts: Final Mix, and here is how you can unlock them.
How to Unlock The Gathering
The original secret ending for Kingdom Hearts 2 was called The Gathering. This secret ending is easily unlocked, as all you have to do is beat the game. The difficulty doesn't matter, and you don't need to 100% the game to unlock it. After the credits roll and the subsequent cutscene plays, the first secret ending will start. Afterward, you will have the option to save your game. It is recommended you do this, as it is required to unlock additional endgame content that is part of the criteria for the second secret ending.
How to Unlock Birth By Sleep
Not to be confused with the prequel game, the secret ending for Kingdom Hearts 2: Final Mix is called Birth By Sleep. Unlocking it is significantly more difficult, and below is everything that needs to be done depending on what mode you are playing.
Beginner Mode
- Cannot be unlocked
Standard Mode
- Complete Jiminy's Journal, get an S rank on every single on all Gummi Ship missions, along with finding every single treasure. You also need to obtain all three Proofs from endgame content.
Proud Mode
- Complete Jiminy's Journal. You also need to obtain all three Proofs from endgame content.
Critical Mode
- Obtain all three Proofs from endgame content.
Essentially, the lower the difficulty you are playing, the more you will need to do. Completing Jiminy's Journal means you have to have found every single chest, puzzle piece, complete everything related to all the mini-games, and fill out every last entry. Between that and the Gummi Ship missions, unlocking the secret ending on Standard Mode will require a significant investment of time (and patience). Proud Mode will take awhile to unlock the secret ending, but you won't have to worry about Gummi Ship missions.
Playing on Critical Mode makes it much easier to unlock the secret ending, but it also means that you will have to beat the game on its hardest and most unforgiving setting. Not only that, but you will have to beat the Lingering Will and all the Organization XIII Replica Data bosses. This also requires you to have found and completed all the challenges of Mushroom XIII.
After you have met the criteria listed above for your chosen difficulty, you will then need to go and beat the final boss one more time. Once the credits are over the original secret ending plays as it would normally, but after that, you will see the newly unlocked secret ending once The Gathering is over.
