Koei Temco, the Japanese publisher known for franchises like Dynasty Warriors, Dead or Alive, and Ninja Gaiden, has revealed a stellar earnings report for its fiscal year 2024. Compared to some of Japan's other powerhouse game publishers, Koei Tecmo has been able to maintain its own space in the industry by catering to action game fans and those that enjoy the Musou genre.

Koei Tecmo flew out of the 2025 gates swinging, releasing five games within the first three months of the year. Dynasty Warriors: Origins, a fresh jumping-in point for new fans of the long-running Musou franchise, kicked the year off strong for the publisher, with a smaller roguelike spin-off in Warriors: Abyss following not even a full month later. Koei Tecmo later appeared at Xbox's Developer Direct showcase to shadow drop its surprise Ninja Gaiden 2 Black remaster alongside the reveal of Ninja Gaiden 4, which is due out later this year. Additionally, the publisher dropped two lesser-known titles in Atelier Yumia: The Alchemist of Memories and the Envisioned Land and Venus Vacation Prism: Dead or Alive Xtreme in March.

With all these game releases, it shouldn't be a shock that this past fiscal year has been one of Koei Tecmo's best in a long time. Koei Tecmo's recent financial results report celebrates record high profits for its 2024 fiscal year, mentioning an 11.4% year-on-year increase. This resulted in the Japanese publisher raking in 36.63 billion yen, equivalent to around 250 million US dollars.

Koei Tecmo Enjoys Record Profits in Fiscal Year 2024 Report

It's worth noting that Koei Tecmo's fiscal year began on April 1, 2024, so much of PlayStation 5-exclusive Rise of the Ronin' s sales were likely a big contributor. Ninja Gaiden 2 Black was also likely a major contributor to Koei Tecmo's record fiscal 2024 profits, as it likely wasn't too costly a project. The remaster also launched on day one into Xbox Game Pass, which didn't seem to hamper the game's profitability. Dynasty Warriors: Origins' commercial success as a new jump-in point was also likely a big help. Considering Rise of the Ronin was one of two games released by Koei Tecmo in 2024, it's likely that the bulk of the publisher's sales occurred near the bookends of its 2024 fiscal year, as there was a huge gap between Rise of the Ronin's March 2024 release and this past January, where Koei Tecmo started pouring out new games.

Looking ahead, Koei Tecmo's "Year of the Ninja" continues with Ninja Gaiden: Ragebound, a 2D action entry from the creators of Blasphemous, and Ninja Gaiden 4, both on their way this year. Koei Tecmo also has the Nintendo Switch 2's Hyrule Warriors: Age of Imprisonment aiming for a 2026 release. With all the games it's recently put out and everything else on the horizon, Koei Tecmo seems to be in an excellent spot right now.
