Kojima Productions revealed a lot of updates earlier this week at the studio's celebration of its 10-year anniversary. The Beyond the Strand livestream event marked a huge milestone for Kojima Productions, and now that Death Stranding and its sequel have cemented the developer as a formidable force in the industry, Hideo Kojima and his team are looking to the future.
Kojima Productions' second original IP after Death Stranding is the terrifying-looking horror game OD, with spy thriller Physint next in line. While OD looks like a fascinating and spine-chilling change of pace, Physint has captured a lot of gamers' attention, because it marks Kojima's return to the spy thriller genre. Right now, all that is known about Physint is its brand-new poster and first revealed cast members, and the latter is shaping up to be an intriguing lineup.
Hideo Kojima is a massive lover of pop culture, and the media he gravitates toward has continued to inform his casting decisions, as seen in Death Stranding and its sequel.
Kojima Productions' Physint Already Has Three Compelling Actors Set to Star in the Mysterious Spy Thriller
Who is the Known Cast of Physint?
- Charlee Fraser
- Don Lee
- Minami Hamabe
Charlee Fraser is a Promising Newcomer
Fraser is an Indigenous Australian model and actor who has recently been transitioning from the runway to the big screen. Her most recognizable role so far is as Mary Jabassa in Furiosa: A Mad Max Saga. Taking on the role of Furiosa's mother is no small feat, but she became a standout character, despite only briefly being in the film. The opening moments of Furiosa: A Mad Max Saga show Mary Jabassa chasing down her daughter's kidnappers in a tense chase sequence that does a wonderful job of setting the tone for the rest of the movie. Considering Kojima's love of Mad Max and the fact that he used series creator and director George Miller as the face of Death Stranding 2's Tarman, it's no surprise that he chose Fraser to be part of Physint.
Don Lee Continues His Kojima Partnership
South Korean-American actor Don Lee has been making a name for himself in Hollywood in recent years. After starring in South Korean hits like Train to Busan and The Gangster, the Cop, the Devil, one of his most prominent Hollywood roles has been as Gilgamesh in the Marvel film Eternals. Lee also played a small role as Samson Hook in Death Stranding 2, which makes Physint the second time that he has collaborated with Kojima on a project.
Minami Hamabe Joins Physint After Being in One of the Decade's Biggest Action Hits
Japanese actor Minami Hamabe is only 25, but her resume spans a little over a decade, going all the way back to 2012. She's likely the least recognizable of the confirmed Physint cast, but she was part of one of the decade's most celebrated action movies: Godzilla Minus One. Released back in 2023, Godzilla Minus One has been hailed as one of the best Godzilla movie adaptations, so it will be exciting to see what Hamabe brings to her role in an espionage thriller like Physint.
Kojima's other project, OD, also features a strong cast that includes Sophia Lillis, Hunter Schafer, and Udo Kier.
The Rest of Physint's Cast Remains a Mystery
In usual Kojima fashion, the Beyond the Strand event ended up raising more questions than answers. OD looks mind-bending, while Physint is still only offering breadcrumbs, but both are incredibly compelling.
Kojima stated back in May that Physint could take "another five or six years" before it's launch-ready, so casting is being done quite early. With three confirmed actors, there are bound to be more announced down the road, and it will be fascinating to see who else Kojima taps to help tell Physint's equally mysterious story.
