Once a player has unlocked weapon upgrading and crafting, they can visit Julie's Gearworks to engage with the features. Fans will have access to two of those establishments straightaway (one at the corner of Resort Blvd. And Hula Ave. In East Waikiki and another in LaD: Infinite Wealth's Anaconda Shopping Center), and they can be used to turn materials like Iron Fragments and Iron Chunks into weapon upgrades. It is worth mentioning that the Weapon Crafting Smartphone app can be used to quickly check material requirements, though fans can only craft and upgrade at Julie's Gearworks.

For those Like a Dragon fans that would like to know a bit more about how weapon upgrading works, each material is worth a certain number of upgrade points, with Iron Fragments having a value of 1, Iron Chunks having a value of 2, and so forth. Additionally, a weapon must consume materials with an indicated cumulative value in order to increase its level by one and improve its stats. To concretize this idea with an example, a weapon might have an upgrade requirement of three, and that would mean that three Iron Fragments would be used every time that its level is raised.

To note, straightforward stat improvement is not the only reason to enhance a Like a Dragon weapon, as the weapon's Brand slots are unlocked at upgrade levels +10, +20, +30. A variety of bonuses can be inserted into those slots, via Julie's Gearworks, and they can be quite powerful indeed. As such, it can be wise to focus on getting a handful of weapons to Brand slot thresholds rather than scattering small upgrades across a multitude of offensive tools.
