Last Epoch: Best Class and Masteries

Last Epoch multiple players

Before we start, it's worth noting that you can choose a base class only once during the entire game, so if you make a mistake, the only way out is to create a new character. In this case, you will need to choose the most versatile class to always have an advantage over the enemy and be able to defend yourself, and Acolyte is perfect for this role. This class is very similar to the Mage, but there are still a few differences between them, in favor of Acolyte.

Like the other classes, by choosing Acolyte, you can develop one of the desired Masteries, of which there are three in total:

  • Lich: A subclass for more experienced players. Compared to other Masteries, the emphasis here is on dealing most of the damage yourself rather than using minions. Playing as a Lich, your task is to keep track of your health, stealing HP from enemies to regenerate or sacrifice some to deal more damage to your opponents. This playstyle is risky, but in the right hands, playing as Lich is a pleasure.
  • Necromancer: Unlike the previous subclass, playing as a Necromancer involves controlling an army of minions that will do most of the work instead of you. In battle, you'll need to distribute your units correctly to prevent enemies from approaching you, as well as use curses to debuff them. The Necromancer's abilities are enormous, and it can be considered the best of the Acolyte subclasses due to its diversity.
  • Warlock: This subclass is a cross between Lich and Necromancer because you will often use minions, but you will also take an active part in battles. Compared to others, the Warlock arsenal consists of a lot of powerful skills, such as Chthonic Fissure or Chaos Bolts. If you prefer DPS characters, Warlock is a great option.

If playing as an Acolyte doesn't fit your playstyle, don't worry because the other classes and subclasses are no less good. Each of the five classes has at least one strong subclass that you can play to overcome all obstacles with no trouble at all. Of course, a lot depends on you, but if you at least try to master one of the above Masteries, you will definitely succeed.
