As players make their way through The Last of Us 2 they will get access to a variety of different weapons, ranging from pistols to bows and beyond. To make good use of these offensive tools, fans will occasionally need to refill their ammunition, though how that is done may not be immediately obvious. Fortunately, it is quite simple to reload in The Last of Us 2, and this guide has all of the details that players will need.
To get right to it, reloading in The Last of Us 2 is directly tied to the fire button (R2 by default), and players simply need to press that input while not aiming to replenish a weapon's ammo. Indeed, R2 serves as both a way to shoot and reload, with the first occurring if L2 is held when R2 is pressed and the latter occurring if it is not, and it may take some TLoU2 players a bit of time to adjust to this control scheme.
That is because many popular shooters use face buttons for reloading and triggers for firing. Without question, that is sure to feel like a very intuitive setup to many players, and reloading in The Last of Us 2 may initially be a bit disorienting as a result. That said, 2013's The Last of Us also put firing and reloading on the same button, so it is certainly not without precedent.
One other thing to say about reloading in The Last of Us Part 2 is that it can only be done if a player has extra ammunition. Fans can check the state of their ammo by looking at the bottom-right corner of the screen, as details on how many bullets are in a weapon's chamber and how many are in reserve are displayed in that portion of TLoU2's UI.
To note, there is a limit to how many bullets any given gun can hold at one time, though it is possible to upgrade weapons in The Last of Us 2 in order to increase their capacity. Not all of the weapons in the game can be upgraded this way, but those that can receive a capacity increase will not need to be reloaded as frequently.
