Before The Last of Us Part 2 Remastered releases on PC, Naughty Dog has outlined a few additions arriving in the game’s No Return mode. No Return is a roguelike survival mode exclusive to The Last of the Us Part 2 Remastered, and it invites players to complete various challenges set within the sequel’s iconic locations through four challenge types: Assault, Capture, Holdout, and Hunted.
The Last of Us Part 2 was first released in 2020, presenting a harrowing story set four years after the 2013 predecessor. The remastered version was later released for the PlayStation 5 in 2024, boasting visual improvements, a speedrun-focused mode, audio commentary, and much more. April is shaping up to be a significant month for TLOU fans, geared to make 2025 a year to remember. In addition to The Last of Us Part 2 Remastered’s PC release on April 3, HBO’s live-action series, starring Pedro Pascal and Bella Ramsey, will air its second season, kicking off the adaptation’s anticipated retelling of Part 2 on April 13.
The Last of Us Part 2 Remastered Has a Controversial Caveat in Its Accessibility Features
The Last of Us Part 2 Remastered's No Return has wonderful accessibility options, though there is controversy regarding how they can be exploited.
Announced by Naughty Dog in a blog post, in tandem with The Last of Us Part 2 Remastered’s PC specs, the developer outlined the new content coming to No Return mode. Four new maps will be added to gameplay, including Overlook, the Seraphites' site, School, where Ellie and Dina combat the W.L.F., Streets, featuring the Seattle neighborhood of Hillcrest, and Nest, recreating the building Abby navigates that’s overrun by Infected. Additionally, two new characters are being added to No Return mode: Bill with a Smuggler playstyle, and Marlene’s Risk-Taker playstyle. Thankfully, PlayStation 5 users will also receive this new No Return content, alongside new trophies and bug fixes, through a free patch released on the same date as the PC launch.
Naughty Dog Announces New Content Coming to The Last of Us Part 2 Remastered's No Return Mode
- Two New Characters: Bill (Smuggler) and Marlene (Risk-Taker)
- Four New Maps: Overlook, School, Streets, and Nest
New No Return characters Bill and Marlene join the best character list from The Last of Us Part 2 Remastered’s No Return mode, complete with their own set of skills. Players manning Bill can use a custom pump shotgun from dead drops to receive double rewards, and he has increased strength against melee attacks despite being unable to dodge. Marlene, on the other hand, uses a Custom Assault Rifle, “All or Nothing” gambits, and she can reroute her No Return path once per run.
While PC users dive into the new content Part 2 Remastered has to offer, TLOU fans have an exciting new season of the HBO adaptation to look forward to, which features a significant time jump (like the game) and begins covering Part 2’s story. The Last of Us season 2 will introduce classic Stalkers to the show, which were memorable infected enemies from the game, and their involvement will surely raise the danger level.
