The countdown is well and truly on for The Last of Us season 2, with only a matter of days to go before fans see the return of Ellie, Joel, and some brand-new faces being introduced to the series. HBO’s adaptation of Naughty Dog's popular video game series has kept within its source material throughout season one, with some tweaks here and there that include fleshed-out characters like Bill and Frank, but it seems as though The Last of Us Season 2 will take a deep dive into more of its infected types that viewers didn't get to see in the show's first outing.
This is great news for fans of the franchise as some criticism regarding the lack of infected variations seen throughout Season one was a talking point. Recently, showrunner Craig Mazin said that the return of the post-apocalyptic series will see more Cordyceps-infected types, including the terrifyingly creepy stalkers who players of the video game will shutter at the mention of. "All I’ll say is that for the people who want to see more of the infected... Buckle up!”, Mazin promised. Now, in a new clip from Season 2, Ellie can be seen encountering one of these horrific infected types, and it serves as a promising tease of what other creepy infected lie in wait for the rest of the series.
8 Details You Might Have Missed In The Last Of Us Season 2 Trailer
Here's what even the most eagle eyed fans may have not noticed in the trailer for Season 2 of The Last of Us TV show.
The Last of Us Season 2 Clip Shows Ellie Facing off Against a Stalker
Posted by Culture Crave on X/Twitter, a new clip from Season 2 of The Last of Us has been revealed, which shows Ellie walking through a warehouse with her gun out while a sinister stalker is hunting her down. Ellie can be heard screaming "Run at me!" As the sneaky infected type stays within the shadows, preferring to watch and wait for the perfect takedown. She then tries to chase after the stalker but to no avail, as its quick movements make it easy to find somewhere fast to hide, but as Ellie searches for it, the stalker can be seen slowly emerging from its hiding spot, making its way towards her and this is where the almost minute long clip frustratingly ends.
In The Last of Us universe, stalkers are the second stage of the infection process after exposure to the Cordyceps brain infection. Unlike clickers, stalkers can see really well and are extremely quick on their feet. Not only are they quiet and agile, these infected types are very aggressive and will charge directly at the victim, but not before waiting it out for a while for the perfect opportunity to strike, making them one of the worst creatures to encounter. Appearance wise, stalkers have fungal growths all over their heads and faces, leaving only one eye left, and can be heard by their frog-like croaking noises, similar to the clicker's 'clicking' sounds.
Season 2 of The Last of Us is shaping up to make an explosive return. Not only will the series welcome new cast members like Kaitlyn Dever as Abby and Isabela Merced as Dina, but fans will also see an expanded storyline for Eugene (Joe Pantoliano), who was only mentioned briefly in The Last of Us Part 2. Also starring Bella Ramsey as Ellie and Young Mazino as Jesse, The Last of Us season 2 premieres on April 13 on HBO Max.
