Last Train Outta' Worm Town is a multiplayer party game complete with various play styles inspired by 'The Floor is Lava' kid games, Dead by Daylight, Fall Guys, and more. In Last Train Outta' Wormtown, players team up against one of their friends who is in control of the sandworm. The cowboy-style beans, meanwhile, must complete a series of objectives while avoiding the terrifying worm.

The Best War Games recently spoke with developer Trevor Vaughn of Get(Color) Games about Last Train Outta' Wormtown's free Friend's Pass system and why he chose to include this feature, among various other details.

How Last Train Outta' Wormtown’s Multiplayer Free Friend's Pass System Works

Although there are several free-to-play games on PC, Last Train Outta' Wormtown's Friend's Pass system may be a welcome addition for fans of multiplayer party games on Steam. As Vaughn explained it,

The Friend’s Pass is the free-to-play version of Wormtown that allows you to join private games completely for free. It doesn’t restrict any of the gameplay mechanics, so you can get the full experience of playing Wormtown with your friends and favorite streamers. If you’ve played a Jackbox game before, it’s a similar idea.

Players can find the Friend's Pass on Last Train Outta' Wormtown's Steam store page, where they can download it and enter a friend's lobby code, so at least one friend must purchase and already own a copy of the game. Vaughn added that "hosting games, quick play, the majority of the character customization items, and the eventual progression/achievement system are locked for the Friend’s Pass."

When asked why he decided to include a Friend Pass, Vaughn talked about the importance of the community and how he wanted to make a game that removed obstacles to join in, making it potentially an ideal remote-play Steam game for friends. As Vaughn put it,

From the start of development on Wormtown, I knew I wanted to do the Friend’s Pass. It’s a game meant for friends - so removing the barriers of entry and creating a low-commitment way for everyone to play together seemed like the obvious choice. I’m also big into Twitch and the streamer culture, and realized the Friend’s Pass easily allows streamers to play with their communities.

Last Train Outta’ Wormtown’s Multiplayer Lobbies And Custom Gameplay Options

Although Vaughn said Last Train Outta' Wormtown "is designed as a party game to play with your friends," there are options for solo players looking for a co-op Steam game to join in through its multiplayer lobby system. As Vaughn explained,

Wormtown has a Quickplay mode, which will search for public quick-play lobbies and join/host one automatically. This feature is fairly experimental at the moment, and I’m curious to see how the community interacts with it.

Vaughn also explained more about Last Train Outta' Wormtown's match customization options,

And while the game is balanced for 3–4 humans vs one worm, you can customize the match settings for custom rule games. We recently played with 6 humans vs 2 worms, and it was absolutely terrifying!

In addition to various ways to play and match customization options, Last Train Outta' Wormtown has character customization options and a progression system on the way. It will be fascinating to see how the PC and streaming community reacts to the game and what new mechanics appear over time in a multiplayer game on Steam that looks set to provide a lot of fun and replayability for players.

Last Train Outta' Worm Town is available now on PC.
