Collecting a bounty of Rupees may seem like an easy task in The Legend of Zelda: Breath of the Wild, but there aren’t many items early on in the game that sell at a high price. But if players think carefully about what they’re collecting and cooking, they can quickly produce major money makers in The Legend of Zelda: Breath of the Wild.
Something as simple as cooking Meat Skewers can produce a vast amount of Rupees quickly, and knowing the right NPCs to sell particular items to can be a significant bonus. The game has hidden gems that will produce money quickly, but only a few things should be sold as soon as possible.
6 Common Gems
By mining every ore deposit early on, they’ll amass quite the collection of common gems and materials, including Flint, Amber, Opal, and Luminous Stones. While Link can exchange 10 Luminous Stones for a Diamond (which sells for 500 Rupees) in Zora’s Domain, players will make money quicker by selling the 10 Luminous Stones for 700 Rupees.
Selling Flint can also be a lucrative money maker. Link can sell his collection of Flint to Jugo in Rito Village, who will buy them in groups of one (5 Rupees), 5 (30 Rupees), 10 (70 Rupees), 30 (250 Rupees), 50 (500 Rupees), and 100 (1,200 Rupees). Common gems like Amber and Opal are used for some armor upgrades. Still, players shouldn’t worry about this early in their playthrough, as it takes time to unlock each Great Fairy Fountain dotted around Hyrule.
5 Rare Gems
If players are lucky, they’ll come across rare ore deposits which can produce more expensive gems like Topaz, Ruby, Sapphire, and Diamonds. Selling these gems as soon as possible is a great way to earn money early on, particularly for buying essential armor from each village - particularly cold and heat resistance clothing from Rito Village and Gerudo Town and Fireproof gear from Goron City.
But as these gems can be much harder to mine, it’s best to save at least 10 of each for future armor upgrades and then sell the rest off when needed. To get more out of their selling price, players should wait until they reach Goron City to sell their rare gems as Ramella will offer to give Link a higher price for his collection if the gems are sold to her 10 pieces at a time.
4 Critters
Of all the critters players can find in Hyrule, Fireproof Lizards, and the three different beetles can net a decent amount of money when sold to specific NPCs. Kima, located in the Eldin Region's Southern Mine, will offer 20 Rupees for three Fireproof Lizards, individually selling for 5 Rupees.
Rugged and Bladed Rhino Beetles only sell for 4 Rupees, so it’s worth exchanging them with Beedle for meals and elixirs that can then be sold if needed. But keep those rare Energetic Rhino Beetles on hand as they sell for a whopping 30 Rupees. However, make sure to save 15 of them before selling them off, as they are used to upgrade the Cap of the Wild, Tunic of the Wild, and Trousers of the Wild armor set.
3 Common Monster Parts
Players will quickly amass a collection of common monster parts from defeating Bokoblins, Lizalfos, and Moblins along their journey. They may only sell for a little individually but can amass a major profit together. They do have other uses, however, as Link can exchange monster parts with Kilton for Mon at Fang and Bone and, in return, can buy unique armor sets and weapons from the monster aficionado.
Link won’t receive much Mon for common monster parts like Bokoblin and Moblin horns and fangs, so it’s better to save rarer monster parts for Mon and sell the common ones. But if players are short on rare monster parts, they can keep half the common ones for Mon and sell the rest for a profit.
2 Meat Skewer
Hunting can sometimes fall to the wayside in Breath of the Wild, but collecting meat from various animals prowling Hyrule can be a major money maker. Meat Skewers may not seem like they’d sell for much, but they can soon skyrocket in selling value if rare cuts of meat are used, like Raw Prime and Gourmet Meat. A Meat Skewer can sell for nearly 500 Rupees by cooking five pieces of Raw Gourmet Meat together.
Once players have a variety of different meats on hand, they should cook Copious Meat Skewers for the ultimate amount of profit. This requires Link to cook four different types of meat together, like Raw Gourmet Meat, Raw Whole Bird, Raw Prime Meat, and Raw Bird Drumstick. Players can net 310 Rupees of this particular Copious Meat Skewer.
1 Baked Apples
Apples are everywhere in Breath of the Wild which can be used in various dishes. It can also be cooked by fire and made into a Baked Apple, which sells for 3 Rupees. The fastest way to do this is by dropping them on the ground in Goron City, as the air will immediately cook any ingredients on the ground, with no fire required.
Players will want to save these Baked Apples, as there’s a lady called Juley in Rito Village that will buy them for a higher price. After completing "The Apple Of My Eye" quest for her, she’ll reward Link with a Silver Rupee and ask that he give her more Baked Apples when he can. She’ll then accept one Baked Apple for 5 Rupees, but if players give her 100 Baked Apples simultaneously, she’ll hand over 1200 Rupees.
The Legend of Zelda: Breath of the Wild is available now on Nintendo Switch.
