The Legend of Zelda: Tears of the Kingdom may take place in the same Hyrule as its predecessor, The Legend of Zelda: Breath of the Wild, but it has changed between the two games. One aspect that has not changed is that the ability to fast travel has returned, which is great considering Hyrule is so vast that horseback riding is not enough.
While The Legend of Zelda: Tears of the Kingdom is a direct sequel to the first game, fast travel is unlocked differently. This guide will show players how to unlock fast travel and how to use it.
How to Unlock Fast Travel in Zelda: Tears of the Kingdom
Fast travel can be unlocked near the beginning of the game while on Great Sky Island, but players will have to complete a few shrines beforehand. Players will have to beat the Ukouh Shrine located in the north, the In-isa Shrine in the west, and the Gutanbac Shrine in the east.
Each shrine gives a Link a different ability for his arm and a Light of Blessing. After completing the third shrine, players should head to the Temple of Time, where Rauru will show players how to fast travel within the Great Sky Island.
Fast traveling in Hyrule is unlocked by visiting the Lookout Landing Skyview Tower in front of the floating Hyrule Castle and talking with Purah, who invented the Purah Pad that Link uses. The tower will act as the first fast travel point in Hyrule.
How to Fast Travel in Zelda: Tears of the Kingdom
Fast traveling is easy once it is unlocked. Players have to simply press the (-) button to bring the world map up on their Purah Pad, hover a Skyview Tower or point of location icon, and then press the A button to travel to that area. A map icon that allows fast travel will have the Travel option available. It can only be used while Link is on the ground and not in combat, so players can not open the map and fast travel while flying in midair.
Any icons created by the player on the map will not offer fast travel --only shrines, Skyview Towers, and Lightroots.
There is an item earned later in the game called the Travel Medallion that will place a fast travel point anywhere the player likes. It can also be recovered and used again as the player sees fit. Players will find the prototype inside a chest at the Akkala Ancient Tech Lab, sitting near the bottom of the stairs against the wall.
The Legend of Zelda: Tears of the Kingdom is now available for the Nintendo Switch.
