It's been over a year since Game Freak announced the existence of Pokemon Legends: Z-A, the follow-up spin-off title to 2022's Pokemon Legends: Arceus. Rather than exploring the past of a previous region, Pokemon Legends: Z-A takes place after the events of Pokemon X & Y, all within the confines of Lumiose City as the Kalos region landmark is under renovations.
Pokemon Legends: Z-A Leak Reveals Full List of New Mega Evolutions
A leak reveals all the new Mega Evolutions that players will find in Pokemon Legends: Z-A, and they share their thoughts on the claim.
Although its title suggests the major presence of one particular rare Pokemon, excited fans may be wondering which other Legendaries will make an appearance in this upcoming game. Based on the Legendary Pokemon available in Legends: Arceus, as well as returning features like Mega Evolution, these 10 Legendary Pokemon are likely to appear in the game when it drops in October.
10 Mewtwo
The First Mega Revealed Is Bound To Return
Mewtwo is perhaps the most iconic Legendary Pokemon out there, but it also holds a special significance to the Kalos region. Particularly, Mega Mewtwo Y was the first Mega Evolution revealed prior to the release of Pokemon X & Y, with many fans speculating it was at first the long-rumored "Mewthree" before the battle mechanic was introduced as the sixth Gen's central gimmick.
In X & Y, there were two Mewtwo Mega Evolutions obtainable in either version, and Mewtwo itself was able to be caught in the Unknown Dungeon near Pokemon Village after players enter the Hall of Fame. Given that Mega Evolution is already confirmed to return in Pokemon Legends: Z-A, it makes sense that this iconic Mega Evolving Pokemon will be a reward for players who complete its main story.
9 Legendary Birds
Kanto's Legendary Trio Roamed Kalos
Aside from Mewtwo, the only other non-Gen 6 Legendary Pokemon who were available to catch in Pokemon X & Y, without transferring them over from previous titles, were the original trio from the first generation: Articuno, Zapdos, and Moltres. Once players defeat the Elite Four in X & Y, they're able to find the three birds roaming the Kalos region, but can only catch one depending on their starter.
Since Chikorita, Tepig, and Totodile are confirmed to be the starter Pokemon of Legends: Z-A, perhaps this Legendary Trio will once again roam Lumiose City to be caught by players depending on their choice of starter. Roaming Legendaries from other generations were already featured in Legends: Arceus, with Tornadus, Thundurus, Landorus, and the new Enamorus all catchable in Hisui.
8 Latias & Latios
Two Legendaries That Are Easy To Confuse With Each Other
Latias and Latios as a Legendary duo from the third generation games Pokemon Ruby & Sapphire, but they also have a special connection with the sixth generation. Namely, X & Y were followed up with the third gen remakes Pokemon Omega Ruby & Alpha Sapphire, in which Mega Evolution returned, featuring purple re-colorings of the traditionally blue and red Legendary Pokemon.
Why Pokemon Legends: Z-A Could Be a Godsend for Pokemon GO
Pokemon Legends: Z-A has been confirmed for a 2025 release window, and its arrival would greatly benefit another popular Pokemon game.
It's yet to be properly confirmed if every single Mega Evolution will re-appear in Legends: Z-A, but some Megas that debuted in Omega Ruby & Alpha Sapphire, such as Mega Altaria, are already confirmed for the new Switch title. If they are, watch out, because we have a feeling that these super-powered Dragon/Psychic-types will be incredibly viable in the next Pokemon metagame.
7 Rayquaza
The Alpha Of The Mega Evolutions
Speaking of Omega Ruby & Alpha Sapphire, competitive fans would be extremely disappointed if Pokemon Legends: Z-A excludes one of the strongest Pokemon to ever exist. Rayquaza is the notable mascot Legendary for Pokemon Emerald, but it made a big appearance in the Gen 3 remakes gaining a Mega Rayquaza form, with absolutely busted stats including 180 Attack AND Special Attack.
Additionally, Rayquaza's still capable of learning Dragon Ascent in the series even after its introduction in the sixth generation games. Even its green coloring is similar enough to Zygarde to make its inclusion in Legends: Z-A a no-brainer, but it might be quite the difficult catch for players. Best be saving that Master Ball for this Pokemon, assuming you haven't already used it on Mewtwo!
6 Xerneas
X Marks The First Fairy-Type Legendary
Now for the obvious inclusions. Even though Pokemon Legends: Z-A alludes to a different Kalos region Legendary in its title, there's a good chance that players will be given to option to catch Xerneas, the mascot Legendary for Pokemon X. As the first Fairy-type Legendary, Xerneas is beloved by lots of competitive fans, and its inclusion in the new game seems like a no-brainer.
What awaits to be seen is if Xerneas will be the recipient of a new form in this game. Dialga and Palkia were both given "Origin Formes" in Pokemon Legends: Arceus to correspond with Giratina's own Origin Forme, so perhaps Xerneas will have its own 10%, 50%, and 100% forms as well? Or, to make things easier, might as well just give it a Mega Evolution.
5 Yveltal
There's No Reason "Y" It Shouldn't Appear
There's no way one mascot Legendary from Pokemon X & Y would appear in Pokemon Legends: Z-A and the other wouldn't. Yveltal is the "Y" counterpart to Xerneas' "X," a Dark/Flying-type that is denoted as a destroyer of worlds. It's the most blatantly threatening of the two Gen 6 mascot legendaries, but the choice to catch it will likely be left up to the player's own discretion.
Pokemon: The 26 Strongest Legendary Pokemon, Ranked According To Their Stats
When it comes to raw power and high base stat totals, few Pokemon can even come close to competing with the series' strongest Legendary Pokemon.
Certainly, there will be a lot of reasons on its own to choose Yveltal over Xerneas, though many players may prefer the more unique solo Fairy-type Legendary. Nevertheless, a new form like a Mega Evolution or Origin Forme could give Yveltal the edge over this life-bringing Legendary counterpart, though both of them will probably still pale in comparison to the third Pokemon in their trio.
4 Zygarde
From Z To A, Indeed
No need to fret, Zygarde fans. Pokemon Legends: Z-A is the Pokemon Z you wanted all along. Although Zygarde has been given a lot of special treatment in the franchise, as its weaker and more powerful forms (Zygarde Core, Zygarde 10%, and Zygarde 100%) reappeared in Pokemon Sun & Moon, a whole generation after the original release of Pokemon X & Y.
Since its 10% Forme has already shown up in trailers for Legends: Z-A, it's safe to say Zygarde is the one legendary fans can be assured they can catch in the new game. The only thing that remains to be seen is whether Zygarde 100% is as far as the Legendary Pokemon can go. Perhaps there's a Mega Evolution on the horizon for the Dragon/Ground-type?
3 Diancie
This Mythical Mega Is Kalos Royalty
Diancie has all the makings of a Legendary Pokemon who is definitely going to be in Pokemon Legends: Z-A. I know what you're thinking: isn't Diancie a Mythical Pokemon? Yes, it is, but its status as a Mythical Pokemon is mainly due to its exclusivity as an Event Pokemon in the sixth generation games. However, it's obtaining in Legends: Z-A might be a lot simpler for Pokemon fanatics.
For starters, the Mythical Pokemon of Legends Z-A Darkrai and Shaymin were much easier to obtain, as players simply needed save data for other Pokemon titles on the Nintendo Switch. Perhaps it'll be a similar situation for Diancie, who, we should point out, also has a Mega Evolution and is closely connected with a common Gen 6 Rock-type: Carbink.
2 Hoopa
There's Lots To Uncover About Hoopa
Another Mythical Pokemon from the sixth generation, Hoopa is a pretty interesting Pokemon that has yet to be explored fully. It's a Psychic/Ghost-type Pokemon that makes portals out of hoops, but with the use of the Prison Bottle item, Hoopa Confined transforms into the Psychic/Dark-type Hoopa Unbound, as sort of a natural but way-too-extreme Mega Evolution.
Pokemon: 8 Most Controversial Pokemon Designs In The Series
Some Pokemon stand out for the wrong reasons. Here are the most controversial Pokemon designs in the series.
Given it was only an Event Pokemon in the sixth generation games, there's a lot of lore to Hoopa that could be expanded upon in Pokemon Legends Z-A. It's worth pointing out even that there's a clear physical resemblance between Hoopa Unbound and Zygarde's 100% forme, so maybe these two Pokemon are more connected than fans have realized?
1 Volcanion
A Unique Typing Deserves Unique Treatment
Volcanion is, at the moment, the only Fire/Water-type Pokemon, as a Mythical Pokemon said to live in mountains powered by steam. While its inclusion in Pokemon Legends: Z-A has yet to be confirmed, given Legends: Arceus' track record with Mythical Pokemon, it's a likely inclusion in the upcoming game in either the base version or via an update/downloadable content.
Particularly, it can be easy to see Volcanion being relevant to the remodeling of Lumiose City. If the Kalos region needs a Legendary Pokemon capable of helping fuel their biggest city through hydro power, we can't think of a better Pokemon for the job than Volcanion. It remains to be seen if any of these Legendaries will be catchable in Legends: Z-A, but we have a feeling fans will be very satisfied.
