LEGO Batman: Legacy of the Dark Knight may initially look like every other LEGO game from a quick glance, but when looking at the scope of the story and the complexity of the combat, it's clear that developers Traveller's Tales have taken more than a few pages out of the Batman Arkham book to create a game that all fans of the superhero can jump into and enjoy once it finally releases.
Every Reference in LEGO Batman: Legacy of the Dark Knight So Far
LEGO Batman: Legacy of the Dark Knight already looks like the ultimate celebration of Batman, with its reveal trailer containing a ton of references.
Of course, while it's essential for any Batman game to have a plethora of gadgets to use, a haunting depiction of Gotham City, and an effortlessly cool Batman to play as, it also needs to feature the heroes' iconic cast of villains. Thankfully, it seems as though LEGO Batman: Legacy of the Dark Knight is packing in as many iconic rogues as possible, with the antagonists below being the ones who have been officially confirmed so far, with many more expected to be revealed closer to release.
Joker
Batman's Most Dangerous And Unpredictable Villain Is Back To Cause Chaos
It's honestly pretty difficult these days to find a Batman movie or video game that doesn't feature the Joker, but this does admittedly make sense, considering he is arguably the most well-known and recognizable antagonist from the hero's rogue gallery. This unpredictable jokester has been playing deadly gags on Bruce Wayne for as long as he can remember, and though it does feel like the Joker has been showing up a little too often in recent years, the good news is, this version seems to be replicating what many consider to be the best iteration of the Joker to date.
No Batman fan will ever be able to forget Heath Ledger's stunning performance as the Joker in The Dark Knight, and it's clear that this rendition is being used as the inspiration for the Joker within the game itself. This is evident in the Joker's makeup, which slowly degrades off his face, just as it did with Heath Ledger in the movie. Whether Joker will play the role of main villain, or just a side antagonist, is unclear as of right now, but what is a guarantee is that the maniacal clown will be causing plenty of chaos in the LEGO world in one way or another.
Catwoman
Bruce Has Always Had Trouble Trusting The Mysterious Jewel Thief
While Catwoman may not be as evil or vicious as many of Batman's other villains, it's still hard to call her a hero, considering she doesn't exactly follow the same sense of justice that Batman does. Instead, Catwoman is primarily focused on stealing precious jewels and treasure for her own selfish gain, which usually results in her coming face-to-face with Batman, who has thwarted her plans on more than a few occasions.
DC: 14 Strongest Versions of Batman, Ranked
DC has shown a few different iterations of the Caped Crusader. Here are the ones that were undoubtedly the strongest Batmans in the franchise.
Catwoman is often considered to be somewhat of an anti-hero within the Batman lore, and as a result, it's always uncertain whether she's going to be helping Bruce or turning against him in his latest adventure. For the latest LEGO Batman game, Catwoman is sporting a classic outfit and also has her trusty whip to back her up, just in case Bruce gets any funny ideas. Considering how much of a blast it was to play as Catwoman in the Arkham games, it would definitely be a real treat for long-time fans if that were made an option for this game too.
Penguin
Cobblepot Can Run, But He Can't Hide From The Caped Crusader
The Penguin may not be as physically imposing as the likes of Bane or Solomon Grundy, but despite that, he's been able to cause some serious problems for the Caped Crusader on several occasions. In fact, he was actually a pretty important antagonist in Batman Arkham City and Arkham Knight, where he used his immense influence as an underground crime boss to send hordes of criminals Batman's way in a desperate attempt to take him down for good.
Batman: Riddler's Best Riddles
Over the years, the Riddler has posed quite a few interesting conundrums for Batman to solve. These are the best of the bunch.
While Penguin is making a grand return for Lego Batman: Legacy of the Dark Knight, it looks as though it will be the version that showed up in 2022's The Batman movie. The trailer for the game even shows a shot-for-shot reference to the iconic scene where Penguin drives away from Batman after thinking he's killed him, only to be utterly humiliated seconds later when the Dark Knight rises from the ashes to interrogate him.
Bane
It's Going To Take More Than A Few Batarangs To Topple This Behemoth
There are not many villains in the city of Gotham who can match Batman when it comes to raw physical strength and power, but Bane is the exception. As a brutal hand-to-hand combatant who can greatly enhance his strength through the use of a chemical known as Venom, Bane is more than capable of pushing Bats to his limit any time the two are forced to exchange blows. Though Bane has taken on many different forms since he was first introduced in the comics, the one that most people's minds will think of when hearing his name is Tom Hardy's portrayal of the character in The Dark Knight Rises.
As a result, it makes perfect sense that this would be the appearance of Bane that the developers would go with when inserting him into the latest LEGO Batman entry, and to say he looks terrifying would be putting it mildly. As was confirmed in the trailer, fans will even be able to take part in the legendary fight scene seen in the film, where Batman and Bane partake in a bloody battle while trying to assert their dominance over the darkness that surrounds them in the environment.
