LEGO has officially unveiled its most expensive set to date: the new Star Wars Death Star. It not only comes with 38 minifigures and more than 9,000 pieces for enthusiasts to assemble, but the latest LEGO set also has tons of hidden features and references. Unfortunately, as the biggest LEGO Star Wars model ever, it comes with a hefty price tag. Those in the US will need to fork out $999.99, while UK buyers can pick up the set for £899.99.
The new Death Star set is just the latest Star Wars-themed collectible from LEGO, but it's officially the biggest and most expensive one to date. With that being said, it's not the first ridiculously priced item to come from the company. Back in 2017, LEGO revealed the 7,500-piece Millennium Falcon, which currently retails for $850 on the LEGO website. The set was once LEGO's biggest model ever, featuring tons of different internal sections for fans to recreate some of their favorite scenes. But that record has now been taken by the new Death Star set.

LEGO Reveals New Star Wars Death Star Set
On September 4, a new LEGO world premiere unveiled a 9,000-piece Star Wars Death Star. The finished product weighs more than 8 kilos, is 70cm in height, comes with 38 minifigures, and is the most expensive model to date. Thanks to its compact and narrow design, this version of the iconic LEGO Death Star could actually be displayed on a shelf when completed. LEGO says it is "packed" with details and easter eggs that will delight Star Wars fans, including the crushing trash compactor where the Rebel heroes were trapped, Princess Leia’s holding cell, the hangar control room that Luke Skywalker and Han Solo infiltrated disguised as Stormtroopers, the tractor beam control unit that Obi-Wan Kenobi deactivated, and much more.
At a glance, this may seem like the company's most epic Star Wars LEGO set to date, but many fans don't seem to be happy with its outlandish $999.99 price tag. Over on Reddit, user Karma_Doesnt_Matter said it "doesn't look like a $1,000 set," while Thedarkmoonrises called the set "clumsy and uninspired," noting that it seems to be more of a reflection of what the brand has become instead of LEGO's "crown jewel." Others also took issue with the TIE Fighter with Imperial Hangar Rack add-on, which can be obtained for free as a "Gift with Purchase" when obtaining the Death Star.
While it might not seem like a significant issue, fans have noted that this GWP won't be available forever, which means a section of the Death Star will essentially be incomplete for those who don't make a purchase immediately. "The worst thing about this might not even be the price or the design, but the GWP that fits into this set. Feels like DLC or a pre-order bonus for an already incredibly expensive set, which is insane. Want the complete set? BUY RIGHT NOW!" Reddit user SomerenV said.
For those who do want to get their hands on the new LEGO set, the Death Star will be available to purchase from October 4, 2025. Those who are signed up to the free LEGO Insiders loyalty program will also get early access to the Death Star from October 1 to 3. More details can be found on the official LEGO website.
