- Combining Minecraft's survival and crafting mechanics with Fortnite's battle royale-style gameplay would create one of the biggest gaming collaborations of all time.
The introduction of LEGO into Fortnite has begun a new era for the hit battle royale title, and this collaboration is proof that Fortnite is showing no signs of slowing down its rapid growth. Building in LEGO Fortnite adds a fun new layer to the game's building mechanics, but this also opens the door for Fortnite to join forces with another massive building-based property.
Thanks to LEGO Fortnite focusing on survival and building, it seems obvious that another collaboration Fortnite should consider venturing into is with another major game; Minecraft. The indie sandbox hit has some of the best survival and building mechanics around, and a team-up with Fortnite could result in a natural successor to the game's LEGO Fortnite mode.
LEGO Fortnite's Success Makes Minecraft an Obvious Follow-Up
Although LEGO Fortnite is obviously part of Fortnite's overall world, the gameplay is different from the battle royale that the original Fortnite is mostly known for. Instead of focusing on battle royale combat, LEGO Fortnite focuses on survival, collecting, and building. The concept of building home bases and collecting resources in order to survive enemy attacks makes Minecraft a perfect match for this kind of collaboration, since survival and crafting is the very heart of Mojang's sandbox title.
Since Minecraft is already known for building and crafting, it is a natural fit for a collaboration with Fortnite, as a mode that combines the two games together would be ideal. LEGO Fortnite clearly focuses on the building elements of LEGO, but a Minecraft mode in Fortnite could bring Minecraft esthetics, mobs, and characters into a battle royale scenario. A Minecraft mode should definitely still feature the building mechanics that the game is known for, but adding a battle royale style of gameplay would be an incredible way to bring the two properties together.
Another major draw of LEGO Fortnite is the introduction of LEGO versions of popular Fortnite skins, and adding the default Minecraft characters like Steve alongside various mobs from the game would make a partnership between the two franchises a recipe for huge success. LEGO Fortnite is already off to a massive start, but Fortnite and Minecraft joining forces would likely be even bigger, thanks to Minecraft being the highest-selling video game of all time. Both games have enormous fan bases behind them, and bringing those communities together would create one of the biggest gaming collaborations of all time.
Chapter 5 of Fortnite is one of the game's most ambitious ventures yet, and it's off to an impressively strong start. Ringing in the start of the game's newest chapter with an Eminem concert and the introduction of LEGO Fortnite has shown fans that the game plans on continuing to reach for more monumental moments. There isn't a game quite like Fortnite, and its ability to team-up with huge franchises has made it one of the most powerful games around. With major partnerships like the one with LEGO keeping the game growing at astronomical rates, it would be truly shocking if Minecraft never found its way into the battle royale.
