- Players can unleash their creativity by building impressive structures, with near-infinite opportunities for customization.
Fortnite just launched a new game in LEGO Fortnite, and it requires a completely new set of skills for players to use. While it features many familiar Fortnite skins, albeit in LEGO form, it isn't another Battle Royale for players to take part in. LEGO Fortnite has its own set of rules to play by, and its own mechanics that form an entirely different game. The end result is a game that can be just as satisfying as going on a good run in a Battle Royale match. LEGO Fortnite has a strong foundation, and has plenty of potential for the future.
Starting life as an announced collaboration between LEGO and Fortnite, the project surpassed expectations by leading to an entirely new game. LEGO Fortnite is a survival game with a heavy crafting element, taking the building that was available in Fortnite's Battle Royale and expanding it far beyond. Considering that the game is a LEGO property, it's only natural that building would play a major role. At the start, players will be on an almost-bare island with no resources on hand. Thankfully, despite the difficult start, players are more than capable of attaining the tools that they need to thrive in the game.
A Perfect Successor For LEGO Fortnite is Already Obvious
LEGO Fortnite has already become a massive success, but a collaboration with another building franchise could be an even bigger hit.
LEGO Fortnite Mixes LEGO-Styled Creativity With Survival Gameplay
Surviving in LEGO Fortnite Requires Vigilance
The survival aspect goes far beyond having to occasionally build a campfire in LEGO Fortnite. There are several areas that players will have to vigilantly keep track of, including:
- Finding and cooking food to stave off hunger
- Avoiding temperatures that are too hot or too cold
- Making and replacing survival tools like axes and pickaxes
- Defending oneself against monsters
LEGO Fortnite's survival doesn't become a cakewalk once the player makes their first campfire and shelter. Ignoring their needs will lead to them rapidly losing health as a result. While the game will remind them, the responsibility of dealing with the elements is in the player's hands.
Most survival aspects can be toggled on or off when creating a new world at the player's discretion, which allows players to approach the game however they want.
LEGO Fortnite Has Near-Infinite Opportunities For Creativity
As one would probably expect from the name, players can build impressive things in LEGO Fortnite, and it's one of the biggest draws for the game. The game gives players blueprints for basic shelters, and they can also recreate the classic Fortnite move of building ramps over normally difficult or impassable terrain. However, options for more complex constructions are entirely up to the player. Once they gather the necessary materials and learn the tools at their disposal, they can go from small shacks to building castles and beyond. Just like with real LEGO sets, players don't have to follow the instructions included in the box.
An Island in LEGO Fortnite Needs Villages to Thrive
Establishing villages is a mechanic that should not be overlooked, and not simply because upgrading villages in LEGO Fortnite leads to more recipes and building parts. While upgrading a village does take a fair amount of materials, the perks are well worth it. Higher-level villages can not only accommodate more NPCs, they can also do more to help the player, from foraging materials to gifting them entirely new crafting recipes. Players can create many villages across LEGO Fortnite's island, and they should be encouraged to do so. Upgrading villages is one of the best markers of progress available in the game.
LEGO Fortnite is a far cry from Battle Royale, but it's no less addicting. Players can spend plenty of time on LEGO Fortnite's massive island and keep finding new areas to explore, so the game has plenty of longevity. While players do need to keep an eye on their hunger and temperature, the island is essentially a big sandbox for them to do whatever they want in, especially once they unlock the higher-level tools and building options. LEGO Fortnite could be the crown jewel of Fortnite's recent expansion due to its sheer amount of options.
