LEGO sure knows how to pull at your heartstrings, don't they? The brick conglomerate has teamed up with Nintendo once again, this time to bring nostalgic fans this incredible LEGO Game Boy set.

The duo announced the set's existence back in January, but we've had to wait quite a while to finally set eyes on it. As is the case with LEGO, the company did a fantastic job bringing the product to brick form. So much so that preorders for the handheld's replication are flying off virtual shelves.

Where Can You Preorder the LEGO Game Boy Set?

You had better click fast, as preorders have already run dry at certain sites.

Preorders for the LEGO Game Boy set went live earlier this morning on both LEGO.com and Amazon. In just the brief few hours that the building kit was available, it appears that preorders ran out on LEGO's site. The preorder option is still alive and well through Amazon. Then more recently, preorder listings went live at both Best Buy and Walmart as well.

LEGO does typically do a refresh on their listing pages before products release. So if you're a LEGO Insider and prefer to purchase directly through its site, it's worth bookmarking the LEGO Game Boy page and seeing if you get lucky with a fresh batch of preorder units.

What Comes in the LEGO Game Boy Set?

421 pieces of pure Nintendo nostalgia.

When it was unclear what the LEGO Game Boy set consisted of, folks had plenty of theories. It was rumored that the brick-built handheld would incorporate The Legend of Zelda: Link's Awakening in some way, and it turns out they were right! One of the coolest aspects of the set is that it comes with not one, but two Game Boy cartridges that can be slid into the pseudo device.

It's an impressive replication at a near 1:1 scale.

The included cartridges are two of the Game Boy's best games: Super Mario Land and the aforementioned The Legend of Zelda: Link's Awakening. Both have their cover art faithfully recreated. And each game even has a screenshot slide that can be displayed on the LEGO Game Boy's screen.

All told, the LEGO Game Boy set comes in 421 pieces. The build must be a bit on the difficult side, as it's recommended for LEGO fans 18 and older. It's an impressive replication at a near 1:1 scale. It features a strikingly accurate control pad, select, start, A, and B buttons. There's the previously mentioned back area to insert and swap out Game Boy Game Paks. And there's a trio of lenticular screens, including the Super Mario Land and Link's Awakening ones, as well as one that displays the iconic Nintendo logo boot screen.

When Does the LEGO Game Boy Set Release?

Coming to your hands this fall.

It was rumored back in February that the LEGO Game Boy set would release on October 1st. It turns out those rumors were accurate, as that's exactly what LEGO and Amazon have both now cited on their respective sites. It was also rumored that the 421-piece set would be priced at $60. That is also confirmed and both LEGO and Amazon have the buildable handheld listed at $59.99. Not too shabby of a price for one of the coolest video game LEGO sets we've seen in quite some time.

Again, these LEGO Game Boy sets have proven to be popular. Head on over to Amazon and secure yours today. Or, keep checking back at LEGO via the link below and see if you get lucky with some fresh listings.
