It has been confirmed that the late Lance Riddick will be replaced as the voice of Sylens in LEGO Horizon Adventures. Sylens was a major character in the two games that inspired LEGO Horizon Adventures, serving as a reluctant and mysterious ally to Aloy while enacting his own agenda from behind the scenes. Part of what made him such a compelling character to many was Lance Riddick’s performance, as he gave Sylens a cerebral and sometimes sinister tone that left gamers (and Aloy) questioning whether they should trust him as he helped uncover the many mysteries within the world of Horizon.
Sadly, Lance Riddick passed away in March 2023 from coronary artery disease and atherosclerotic heart disease at age 60. Fans of his performances in both the Horizon games and Destiny 2 paid tribute to Riddick through special in-game events and commemorative artwork, and Guerrilla Games included their own homage to him in the Horizon Forbidden West: Burning Shores DLC. Keith David was eventually cast to replace Riddick as Commander Zavala in Destiny 2, but how Guerrilla Games would handle Sylens moving forward has remained a mystery.
LEGO Horizon Adventures File Size Revealed

Now that question is answered, at least when it comes to the upcoming LEGO Horizon Adventures. Guerrilla Games Senior World Artist Lucas Bolt recently confirmed to IGN that Sylens would be getting a new voice actor for LEGO Horizon Adventures, but he didn’t reveal exactly who would be taking over the beloved role. Bolt went on to say that the crew behind the Horizon games still misses Lance Riddick, who “wonderfully portrayed the essential character of Sylens in Horizon Zero Dawn and Forbidden West.”
Sylens Is Getting a New Actor in LEGO Horizon Adventures
Lance Riddick’s passing made the recasting of Sylens inevitable given the character’s importance to the ongoing Horizon storyline, but some players likely expected Guerrilla Games and Studio Gobo to simply recycle dialogue from previous games for LEGO Horizon Adventures, which retells the story of the original Horizon Zero Dawn in the family-friendly style of Traveler’s Tales’ LEGO titles. Other Horizon cast members like Ashly Burch (Aloy), JB Blanc (Rost), John Macmillan (Varl) and John Hopkins (Erend) are reprising their roles in LEGO Horizon Adventures.
Lance Riddick’s performance as Sylens in Horizon Zero Dawn and Horizon Forbidden West will be a tough act to follow for many fans. It isn’t clear yet if Sylens’ new voice actor in LEGO Horizon Adventures will take over the role full-time in future games, but it is certainly a possibility. After all, Horizon Forbidden West’s cliffhanger ending leaves the door wide open for a Horizon 3, and Guerrilla Games currently has a live-service Horizon Online multiplayer game in the works.
