Developer Neowiz will add two new difficulty options and a new boss rush mode to Lies of P in an upcoming free update. These additions will arrive alongside Overtur e, Lies of P’s upcoming prequel DLC.

Lies of P is an acclaimed action role-playing game that drags players into a dark, Soulslike reimagining of Carlo Collodi’s Pinocchio, set in the Belle Epoque-inspired city of Krat. In it, players control a puppet created by Geppetto called P, who wakes up in the middle of chaos, where puppets are attacking humans, and must embark on a journey to find Geppetto and uncover the city's dark secrets. True to its Soulslike roots, Lies of P offers a very tough yet rewarding experience, pitting players against formidable bosses and challenging encounters. Following the success of the game—surpassing seven million players—the developer announced Overture: a prequel DLC that takes players back in time to the beginning of the Puppet Frenzy in Krat. Now, Neowiz has revealed a couple of surprises that will come alongside the DLC.

What Lies of P's Sequel Will Hopefully Take from the First Game

A reflective exploration of Lies of P’s distinct mechanics and design philosophy could meaningfully influence its anticipated sequel.

As reported by Video Games Chronicle, game director Jiwon Choi revealed details about Lies of P: Overture. The new DLC will not only bring a new story for players, it will also introduce a new rush mode, Battle Memories, that will allow players to re-challenge all the bosses from the main game and DLC. Additionally, the release of Overture will come alongside a free update for the base game, adding two new difficulty options called Butterfly’s Guidance and Awakened Puppet, while the default difficulty (the one everybody has been playing) will now be labeled as “Legendary Stalker.”

Lies of P Will Introduce Two New Difficulty Options

Jiwon Choi commented on this, saying that the studio wants to make sure that more people can enjoy Lies of P: Overture DLC as well as the base game, regardless of their skill level. He also revealed that this decision stems not only from player feedback but also from the developers themselves. Choi emphasized that these new difficulty options will broaden the game’s audience and cater to different types of players.

With this move, Neowiz is stepping away from the FromSoftware formula regarding difficulty options in games. One of the reasons a game is labeled as “Soulslike” has to do with how tough and challenging it is, often offering only one difficulty setting and forcing players to find a way to defeat enemies by coming up with different builds and strategies. Nevertheless, amid ongoing debates about difficulty options in Souls games, Neowiz has taken a step aside and made the game more accessible for those not willing to spend hours trying to beat a single enemy.
