The story of Lies of P begins in a seemingly abandoned rail car when players are awoken by a mysterious voice. Shortly after moving for the first time, players will be forced to choose between a trio of "paths" that will dictate their fighting style. Each of the paths comes with its own unique strengths and weaknesses, as well as a starter weapon that coincides with the chosen attribute. Although it may not seem like a big decision, this choice will actually dictate what path players follow for a majority of the early and mid-game.
To better help players make an informed decision about what path is best for them, here's a rundown of all the available paths, as well as their starting weapons and stats in Lies of P.

The Path of the Cricket affords players the best "balance" when starting their Lies of P journey. It's the Jack-of-all-trades class and puts points into multiple attributes without favoring one particular path too much. This is the best way for players to begin their journey if they aren't sure what type of weapons they want to use or exactly what build they will want to carry for the early-to-mid game.
Path of the Cricket sees all attribute points allocated fairly evenly and gives players a good mixture of both power and speed.
Pros
- Offers the best starting stat allocation for players that want the freedom to pick and choose their own path later on.
- Gives players decent speed and attack without sacrificing health or stamina. Provides the best middle-ground.
Cons
- Doesn't do "one thing" particularly well, is very evenly distributed so players don't get a Stamina, Weight, Motivity, or Technique bonus at the start.
- Lower weight capacity, similar to Path of the Bastard, makes it difficult to use larger weapons and equip better defensive items early.

Those looking to be quick on their feet and strike with a flurry of attacks should consider the Path of the Bastard. This particular path is geared more towards speed, forgoing raw damage and heavy swings for quick strikes that let the player dance around enemies while simultaneously dishing out damage. The Path of the Bastard is a good baseline for those looking to carry daggers, rapiers, or Technique-based weaponry during their journey.
Path of the Bastard sees more points placed into Technique and Vigor, to give players additional Stamina to keep their attacks coming and their dodge ability ready.
Pros
- Has the highest Stamina amount of any starting class, meaning players will be able to dodge, attack, and sprint more often.
- Technique weapons swing at a faster rate, allowing players to dish out damage quickly without fully committing to heavier swings and charge attacks.
Cons
- Has the lowest starting HP of any class, as well as low Physical Defense to protect against attacks.
- Weaker weapons can take longer to successfully stagger enemies.

Path of the Sweeper is reserved for players who want to hit as hard as possible, sacrificing their speed and Stamina for heavy swings and stagger strikes. This path is all about wielding heavy weapons that take forever to wind up but reward players with massive damage outputs in a very short period of time if they can successfully outmaneuver enemies and hit them with charged attacks.
Path of the Sweeper dumps most of its points into Motivity and Capacity to allow players to carry heavier weapons without a penalty to their movement.
Pros
- The highest health of any starting class.
- Extra Capacity means players can carry heavier weapons and equip more defense items without worrying about weight capacity penalties.
Cons
- Low Stamina means players can have their guard broken easily, as well as struggle to dodge and sprint for prolonged periods of time.
- Heavy weapons swing incredibly slow, leaving players vulnerable to enemy attacks if they don't learn patterns and perfect blocking.
Players will be able to change their class and attributes later in the game, once they hit Area VII, but they'll need to make it through a series of strong bosses and enemies to do so. Because of this, it's important to pick a starting class that adheres to whatever play style players wish to utilize. They'll be "stuck" on that given path for quite a while through the early-to-mid game.
