Summary

  • Infinite Wealth's DLC jobs are polished and well-equipped.
  • Unlocking new jobs in Infinite Wealth requires reaching a personality level and paying for a vacation.
  • The DLC jobs in Infinite Wealth are more valuable and worth the money compared to Like a Dragon's DLC jobs.

Like a Dragon: Infinite Wealth's DLC jobs avoided a trap that Yakuza: Like a Dragon's own DLC jobs fell into. Since the DLC jobs are arguably the most valuable DLCs in the game, opening two entirely new character classes, one would expect them to be polished to perfection. In Like a Dragon: Infinite Wealth's case, that is certainly true. However, the first run for the idea in Yakuza: Like a Dragon had a critical flaw in the design that was difficult to overlook. Thankfully, Infinite Wealth was able to make the necessary change in time for its own DLC jobs.

The way that players unlock jobs in Infinite Wealth is a bit different from the previous game. While Yakuza: Like a Dragon requires specific levels in character, personality, and bonds, Infinite Wealth's new jobs require Ichiban to reach a certain personality level and then pay for a vacation experience that offers the job to every eligible character. In addition, the new jobs in Infinite Wealth tend to be even more over-the-top and fantastical than the last game's, such as the Kunoichi, Desperado, and Action Star. Infinite Wealth's new jobs are a highly entertaining addition, especially with the updated mechanics for bringing skills between classes.

Like a Dragon: Infinite Wealth's Classes Are As Well-Equipped As Any Other

Yakuza: Like a Dragon's DLC Classes Had Almost No Weapons

One set of DLC added two new jobs in Yakuza: Like a Dragon. The Devil Rocker was a KISS-like rock star who wields an electric guitar and concert pyrotechnics in battle, while the Matriarch was a yakuza boss lady wearing a kimono and wielding a naginata.

Despite both classes being incredibly cool, they had an extremely shallow weapon pool. Aside from their weak starting weapons, their only other options were extremely expensive endgame weapons. As a result, they will either be underpowered for most of the game or require a massive amount of grinding. Despite both classes being great, this heavily impacted their overall usability in-game.

The Enforcer job in Yakuza: Like a Dragon also suffered from a lack of weapons, although to a slightly lesser extent compared to the DLC jobs.

Infinite Wealth's DLC Classes Were Treated Just Like the Rest

Infinite Wealth addressed this, as befitting one of the best JRPGs in Sega's library. Infinite Wealth's DLC classes, the Linebacker and Tennis Ace, both have full weapon lists, just like every other class in the game. This means that at any point in the story, the player has a chance to have them at an appropriate power level for what is to come. This makes them valid options no matter what, especially since both classes have a selection of useful traits and skills that make them viable. It's one of the several ways that Infinite Wealth was a significant upgrade over its predecessor.

The DLC Jobs In Infinite Wealth Are More Worth the Money

The status of the classes as DLC is a particular sticking point. While Infinite Wealth has its own DLC controversy, the Linebacker and Tennis Ace classes are not an issue. Rather, Yakuza: Like a Dragon's Devil Rocker and Matriarch struggled greatly because of how few options players had for them.

They were more or less locked to the endgame for this reason. By that point, players may wonder if it's worth changing their established dynamic just to try out a new class. This contrasts greatly with the Linebacker and Tennis Ace, which are much easier to fit into a party dynamic.

Infinite Wealth's treatment of its DLC classes is something that a sequel would do well to repeat. Ensuring that there are weapons for every job in Infinite Wealth made the two remarkably accessible, making them well worth the money. Even though the Devil Rocker and Matriarch were visually striking with plenty of cool abilities in Yakuza: Like a Dragon, they struggled to live up to their potential. Thankfully, Infinite Wealth went above and beyond where its own DLC jobs were concerned.
