The state of Little Nightmares 3 has been a huge mystery, as developer Supermassive Games and publisher Bandai Namco have kept tight-lipped about the third entry in the adorably disturbing horror series. Little Nightmares 3 is a first for the series, as it brings a co-op option to its gameplay. It's a compelling evolution of the franchise's formula, and fans may get to learn more information very soon.
The Little Nightmares 3 team recently went to Twitter to announce a special showcase scheduled for June 24. The announcement in question was merely a 13-second clip that revealed the premiere date and respective air times, but it's the most substantial update fans have gotten in months. After facing a delay and being kept in the dark, Little Nightmares 3 will hopefully finally announce a release date at this event, but there's another announcement that could be waiting in the wings, as well.
Supermassive Has Big Shoes to Fill in Little Nightmares 3
Little Nightmares 3 is perhaps one of the most anticipated horror titles of 2024, and there's a lot of pressure on Supermassive to nail it.
June 24th's Little Nightmares 3 Showcase Could Also Reveal the Leaked Little Nightmares Enhanced Edition
A PlayStation Store Mix-Up
About two weeks ago, a listing showed up on the PlayStation store showcasing an enhanced edition of Little Nightmares. The listing quickly disappeared, but it was on the site long enough for a lot of fans to take notice. Speculation about an enhanced Little Nightmares is nothing new. Way back in January 2024, an ESRB rating for Little Nightmares: Enhanced Edition was noticed by eagle-eyed gamers, quickly fueling anticipation.
However, as the year came and went without such a version being released, it seemed as though an updated Little Nightmares might never arrive. After the PlayStation Store leak, though, it looks like Supermassive Games may have more than just a release date for Little Nightmares 3 up its sleeve. 2025 has promised plenty of unique horror games to look forward to, and Little Nightmares 3 being added to the list would be a welcome addition to the expected lineup. Games like The Midnight Walk have already brought horror fans a terrifying experience balanced with a breathtaking art style, and it will be interesting to see how Little Nightmares 3 evolves the charming look that it has become known for.
The Little Nightmares showcase airs at 12 PM PST / 3 PM EST.
Will Little Nightmares 3 Release This Year?
All will be revealed on June 24, but a 2025 launch date seems to be a likely bet. Originally planned to be released in 2024, the game was hit with a delay, as Supermassive Games aimed to launch in the following year. Now that 2025 is well underway, it would be the ideal time to make an announcement. Considering the franchise's spin on the horror genre, Little Nightmares 3 may arrive sometime in the fall. This would only make sense, since it would be a great option to get into the Halloween spirit. However, this also presents the game with significant competition.
Little Nightmares 3's protagonists are named Low and Alone.
Horror Games Slated to Launch Fall 2025
- Silent Hill f - September 25
- Directive 8020 - October 2
- Cronos: The New Dawn - TBD
Granted, these three games are far more traditional in their horror approaches than the Little Nightmares franchise. The latter has the benefit of its cute aesthetic, which can help it stand out in the crowd. Even more intriguing, Directive 8020 is also developed by Supermassive Games, so it would be interesting to see the developer offer a one-two punch this fall.
There's also Reanimal on the horizon. Developed by Tarsier Studios, the original team behind Little Nightmares, Reanimal will definitely be Little Nightmares 3's biggest competitor. The franchise's iconic art style is from the minds at Tarsier Studios, and it's returning in full force in Reanimal, but even darker. Reanimal has yet to lock in a release, but it's expected this year, potentially setting it and Little Nightmares 3 up to go head-to-head.
