Lonely Mountains: Snow Riders is now available on the PlayStation 5, having reached Sony's current-gen console following a last-minute delay. Its PlayStation debut arrives after nearly a year's worth of Xbox console exclusivity.
Developed by the Berlin-based Megagon Industries, Lonely Mountains: Snow Riders is a sequel to the 2019 mountain biking game Lonely Mountains: Downhill. While it retains the bird’s-eye perspective of its predecessor, the sequel shifts from biking to skiing, bringing with it a seasonal change: environments are now blanketed in snow and ice rather than dirt and sand. The game was originally released for the Xbox Series X/S and PC on January 21, which is also when it made its way to Xbox Game Pass.

Lonely Mountains: Snow Riders Reaches PlayStation 5 After Last-Minute Delay
Ten and a half months following Lonely Mountains: Snow Riders' Xbox debut, the minimalist skiing game made its way to the PS5, reaching Sony's latest console on December 15. Its PlayStation port was originally slated for a December 3 launch but suffered a delay two days before that date. Megagon Industries cited a "last-minute bug" found in the PS5 version as the reason for the postponement, albeit without elaborating. No new release date was announced before Lonely Mountains: Snow Riders appeared on the PS Store on December 15.
Lonely Mountains: Snow Riders' First DLC Is Also Out on PlayStation Store
The PlayStation version of the skiing game is priced at $24.99, which is consistent with its pricing on the Xbox Store and Steam. Megagon Industries is also selling a $28.49 Supporter Edition, which features a variety of bonus cosmetics, including a flight jacket, retro racing outfit, beanie with glasses, and a unique helmet-ski goggles combo, among others. This so-called Supporter Pack is also available for purchase separately, though it's more expensive than when bundled with the base game, priced at $7.99.
$7.99 is also the price tag attached to Highlands, the first Lonely Mountains: Snow Riders DLC that originally launched on October 30 and debuted on the PS Store alongside the PS5 version of the game. The add-on introduces a new Lonely Mountain called Ben Fiadhein, which includes four trails, each spanning two slopes. New challenges and rewards are also part of the package, together with additional leaderboards and full multiplayer support. Even players who don't own the DLC can play the Highland trails in public quick matches, but buying the $7.99 pack is a requirement for being able to access private tours.
Lonely Mountains: Snow Riders Supports Co-Op for up to 8 Players
Multiplayer is a new addition to Snow Riders, as Lonely Mountains: Downhill was a fully single-player experience. Conversely, the sequel allows teams of between two and eight players to descend the game's imposing mountains together in co-op while sharing their checkpoints, or participate in more traditional competitive races. The game's multiplayer is online-only, meaning no split-screen couch co-op is available. Anyone who liked the co-op skiing experience in Ubisoft's Riders Republic may find Lonely Mountains: Snow Riders to be equally enjoyable, particularly if they are on the lookout for a slightly less competitive and more relaxed experience that allows them to take in the scenery rather than focusing on maintaining breakneck speed.
Lonely Mountains: Snow Riders Receives Its First PlayStation Patch
The first post-release update for the PlayStation version of Lonely Mountains: Snow Riders rolled out on December 16. The patch addresses "most of the issues" reported by early adopters, including some crashes, Megagon Industries said in a prepared statement. The German developer has yet to clarify whether the PS5 port marks the end of the game’s platform expansion. Lonely Mountains: Downhill also launched for the Nintendo Switch in May 2020—about seven months after debuting on Xbox One, PS4, and PC—leaving open the possibility that its sequel could reach at least one Nintendo console as well.
