Amazon Studios has revealed 23 new Lord of the Rings: The Rings of Power character posters. The project has been quite a secretive one since it was announced and these epic posters carry on that tradition.
The announcement of Lord of the Rings: The Rings of Power was announced by Amazon back in January 2020 and caused a lot of buzz among fans of the beloved series. Details on the series are being kept quiet, with Amazon even refusing to link actors with certain characters, but the studio's release of 23 new character posters has fans eager to enter the world of hobbits, wizards, and rings again.
The official Twitter of the yet-to-be-released Amazon series Lord of the Rings: The Rings of Power began releasing epic images of the series' characters. Keeping with the series' reputation of withholding details, the new posters only show the hands and torsos of the characters, their faces remaining a well-kept secret. While much of the cast of the series has been announced, led by Game of Thrones' Robert Aramayo, the characters they will be playing have not been revealed, making these new faceless posters even more interesting and tantalizing. Each pair of hands in the posters holds an object that seems to hint at the identity, or perhaps the purpose, of the character.
While specifics regarding characters and plot have not been revealed, we know that the series will feature over 20 characters and focus on events that took place thousands of years before J.R.R. Tolkien's The Hobbit and The Lord of the Rings trilogy , which were later adapted into films directed by Peter Jackson. While Jackson is in no way involved in this project, the Amazon series will serve as a prequel to his visual tales, focusing on the creation of the rings and Sauron's rise to power in the second age of middle-Earth. J.D. Payne and Patrick McKay will be the showrunners of the Amazon epic and have boldly claimed this series is something "we imagine could live on in the spine of a book next to J.R.R. Tolkien's other classics."
Whether the series will live up to the hype in Payne and McKay's statement remains to be seen. Amazon seems to have high hopes for the Lord of the Rings series and will reportedly spend over a billion dollars in order to produce 5 seasons.
Lord of the Rings: The Rings of Power will premiere exclusively on Amazon Prime September 2, 2022.
