The Best War Games can exclusively share a new Lost in Random: The Eternal Die developer diary, detailing some of the many aspects of the game—including its curious choice of a protagonist. This early look at Lost in Random: The Eternal Die arrives just a few months ahead of its summer release.
The original Lost in Random game made waves in 2021 with its unique blend of dice-based combat, deck-building mechanics, and striking visuals reminiscent of a Tim Burton movie. Its sequel, The Eternal Die, was announced in August 2024 with a 2025 launch window.
As The Eternal Die's release draws nearer, studio Stormteller Games has shared a new developer diary, which The Best War Games can now exclusively reveal. The three-minute video features an interview with Oskar Hanska, the narrative designer and writer of the upcoming game, who discussed various aspects of The Eternal Die, including its unusual choice of a protagonist. "One of the things we did early on was that we decided on this game not being Lost in Random 2," Hanska recalls. That decision ultimately led the team to choose Aleksandra as the game's main character.
The Eternal Die's Protagonist Was Lost in Random's Antagonist
Aleksandra, also known as the Queen of Random, was the main antagonist of the first Lost in Random game. With the sequel shifting genres and leaning more into roguelite action, Stormteller felt that making Aleksandra the new protagonist was a fitting choice. Hanska confirmed that the "intense and awesome voice acting" that defined the original will carry over into the sequel, all the while praising voice actor Elsie Lovelock for her powerful performance as Aleksandra. "She brought everything into that role," the narrative designer opined. Stormteller’s latest developer diary even includes a few previews of some of the many dramatic voice lines from Lost in Random: The Eternal Die.
The Lost in Random sequel doesn't yet have a concrete release date, with publisher Thunderful so far only attaching a summer 2025 release window to the project. The upcoming roguelite is in development for the Xbox One, Xbox Series X/S, PS5, Nintendo Switch, and PC. Lost in Random: The Eternal Die will also be a day-one Xbox Game Pass release.
One of the things we did early on was that we decided on this game not being Lost in Random 2.
Steam and Xbox users have been able to try The Eternal Die's demo since mid-February 2025. The trial version of the game currently holds "Very Positive" player reviews on Steam, as well as a 4.4-star rating on the Xbox Store.
