Lost Soul Aside is finally out, and it’s already shaping up to be one of the most interesting hack-and-slash experiences of this generation. Needless to say, this game’s combat features a lot of different fun mechanics that interact with each other, and one of the most notorious ones is Arena Powers.
After fusing with Lord Arena, the main character, Kaser, can learn, equip, and unleash a collection of special powers that all have varying effects in battle: some are offensive, some are defensive, others heal his HP, etc. With over twelve different Arena Powers to choose from, players who are just starting Lost Soul Aside may find themselves overwhelmed, so this guide will explain which ones are the absolute best in the game and why they should use them.
All Chapters/Missions in Lost Soul Aside
Here's how many chapters are in Lost Soul Aside and how much time players can expect their first playthrough to take.
Manifestation
Summon a Lord Arena-Shaped Turret
- Obtained: After defeating the Ancient Mecha
Manifestation allows Kaser to summon what the game describes as an “ancient spirit” from Lord Arena’s memories, which basically functions as a stationary turret that will slowly damage any enemy that enters its radius for thirty seconds, and the area it covers is surprisingly large.
While Lost Soul Aside is a fast-paced character action game where dealing direct damage is always the priority, having a more passive offensive ability can be extremely useful, especially when Kaser is surrounded by multiple enemies at the same time. Manifestation’s damage output can be quite underwhelming at first, but keep in mind that the "ancient spirit" gets increasingly stronger every time the player upgrades this Arena Power.
Heavenstruck Wood
Electrifying Enemies with a Lightning Tree
- Obtained: After defeating Squall
Heavenstruck Wood allows Kaser to summon a magical tree that attracts lightning, which damages any enemies that are stuck in its range with electric-type energy. If that wasn’t already enough, it also gives them the Electrified status ailment.
Of course, this power is quite similar to Manifestation, but the main difference is that the lightning summoned by Heavenstruck Wood deals a lot more consistent damage, and its secondary effect is particularly useful, seeing as not many Arena Powers in the game can cause status ailments to enemies. Both of these passive abilities can be of great help in crowded combat segments, but this one is slightly better. And, as always, its lightning will get increasingly stronger every time the player upgrades it.
Voidmaw
A Basic, but Effective Ranged Attack
- Obtained: After freeing Lord Arena
Voidmaw is the very first Arena Power unlocked in the entire game and, as such, is very simple but very effective. With it, Kaser can launch a ranged void projectile that deals a fair share of damage to enemies. Additionally, its upgrades not only get stronger but can also restore varying amounts of Fusion Energy.
Lost Soul Aside: Beginner Tips & Tricks
From combat to rewards and abilities, here's a collection of handy tips and tricks for any newbies jumping into Lost Soul Aside.
Like most hack-and-slash titles, having ranged attacks is extremely important in Lost Soul Aside, and, while the player eventually unlocks more reliable options (like the Poleblade weapon), Voidmaw is the only one available in the game’s earlier levels. It is not the strongest Arena Power, but it can quickly reach and take down annoying enemies and bosses that are trying to attack from a distance.
Mountain Break
Summons Destructive Energy Blades from the Ground
- Obtained: After defeating Rose Queen
Mountain Break allows Kaser to infuse the ground with Voidrax energy in order to summon three giant energy blades that instantly deal massive damage to any opponents around him. A lot of Arena Powers in Lost Soul Aside are AoE attacks that can help the player do some much-needed crowd control whenever they’re overwhelmed, and this one is no exception.
The main appeal of Mountain Break is how surprisingly snappy it is, as the blades come out of the ground very quickly, deal damage and push enemies away, and disappear: it doesn’t waste any time. Of course, it can get rid of big groups of enemies that are trying to attack Kaser at the same time, but it’s also useful against mini-bosses or bosses that have multiple weak points (like Lord Buckhorn/Fake Lord Arena).
Lifeforce Bestower
The Only Healing Arena Power in the Game
- Obtained: After defeating the Buckhorn Spirit Dragon
While Lifeforce Bestower is not the only Arena Power in Lost Soul Aside that doesn’t deal any damage, it is the only one that can heal Kaser. It works similarly to Heavenstruck Wood, with the main difference being that the magical tree that Kaser summons will gradually restore his HP as long as he’s inside its radius.
Healing Potions are the main method of healing in this game, and these items are restocked either by finding them randomly in treasure chests or by talking to Liana. Because of this, Lifeforce Bestower can be especially useful when the player runs out of potions in two specific situations: during long segments with powerful enemies in which Liana is nowhere to be seen, and in boss fights, which can be surprisingly long and challenging at times.
Crystal Blast
Explosive Orbs that Annihilate Enemies in an Instant
- Obtained: After defeating Aramon's Power Source
Crystal Blast is yet another effective Arena Power that allows Kaser to conjure a bunch of explosive orbs that explode upon contact. The area of effect of these orbs is very random, meaning that they will quickly scatter across the battlefield and damage any enemies that are standing too close to Kaser.
Crystal Blast is definitely one of the best AoE attacks in the game, because its explosive orbs appear extremely quickly, and they can be used effectively to do some crowd control against hordes of enemies. And if all that wasn’t enough, they also inflict the Electrified status ailment after they’re upgraded. Bonus tip: This Arena Power can help break through the shields of mini-bosses and bosses quickly if it’s activated when Kaser is very close to them.
Stellar Guardian
Enhances Kaser’s Combos and His Damage Output
- Obtained: After defeating Victor
Some Arena Powers in Lost Soul Aside are powerful attacks, and others have more passive abilities, but Stellar Guardian is notorious for directly enhancing the strength of Kaser’s combos. This ability summons three energy orbs that surround the playable character for thirty seconds, dealing damage to any enemy that touches them (their time limit can be increased by upgrading it).
All Skycrest Badlands Monolith Locations In Lost Soul Aside
Help Gethya find and activate all three monolith tablets to proceed to the next area in Lost Soul Aside.
What makes Stellar Guardian so great is that it doesn’t interfere with the flow of combat nor completely stops it: Kaser can summon these energy orbs and make his combos more lethal to enemies and bosses in an instant. Even if the damage they deal is not especially remarkable, they’re very good at depleting the shield bars quickly, so activating Stellar Guardian is key during encounters against tough enemies and bosses with a lot of HP.
Frost Blast
A Landmine That Unleashes A Massive Explosion
- Obtained: After defeating Lord GoldenLion
Mountain Break and Crystal Blast are great, but Frost Blast is undoubtedly the best AoE attack in the entire game, and arguably the best Arena Power in Lost Soul Aside. It allows Kaser to plant a landmine on the ground, which detonates upon contact with an enemy and inflicts the Frost status ailment. This explosion deals a lot of damage and covers a large area, even when this ability hasn’t been upgraded at all.
Frost Blast’s best trait is the fact that it’s a landmine, which means that the player can plant it whenever they want and trick enemies (or even bosses) into stepping on it. To make things even better, the explosion itself has multiple hits that can chip away at both their health bars and their shield bars. It’s also recommended that Frost Blast be upgraded as soon as possible, because its third version summons a special implosion at the end of the explosion that deals some much-needed additional damage.
