Lost Soul Aside looks set to meet its targeted release date of August 29, having finally gone gold. Backed by PlayStation's China Hero Project, Lost Soul Aside is an action-adventure RPG for PC and PS5, developed by Ultizero Games.
Being a vision that was first conceived in 2014 by solo developer Yang Bing, Lost Soul Aside has essentially been a decade in the making. After grabbing Sony's attention two years later, the project eventually became a PlayStation-published title and continued development at Ultizero Games, which was founded by Bing in 2017. In the past few years, the studio has gradually stepped up Lost Soul Aside's marketing with new trailers, leading to positive buzz among fans. Originally scheduled for an April 2025 launch, the action-heavy game was delayed at the last minute and pushed to August.
Why Final Fantasy 16 Fans Should Keep an Eye on Lost Soul Aside
The upcoming action-RPG Lost Soul Aside owes a lot to the Final Fantasy franchise, and its most recent entry resembles its imitator in turn.
Lost Soul Aside Goes Gold, Suggests Timely Launch
Following a long development process, Lost Soul Aside now seems to be on track to release later this month. On WeChat (via Twitter user Kami), it was revealed that the PlayStation console exclusive had gone gold, four weeks ahead of its launch. In other words, it means that a playable build of the game is ready for public release. This also suggests that the Ultizero Games title is increasingly likely to roll out on its scheduled release date of August 29, without any more delays. In their announcement, the devs shared that "all development" on Lost Soul Aside had been completed and that the team was working on "final optimizations" to make sure players have a "seamless" time with the game.
As for any game, going gold is a very promising sign for Lost Soul Aside's release plans. After waiting for an additional four months, anticipating gamers can finally look forward to getting their hands on the long-overdue title. How Lost Soul Aside performs will likely bear great significance for the Chinese gaming industry, which faces high expectations following Black Myth: Wukong's massive success, and for Sony's incubator program in the country.
One more thing that will become clear when Lost Soul Aside arrives is which video game franchise it is most similar to. Being an action-RPG that draws inspiration from various other popular games in the genre, it has been compared to the likes of Final Fantasy and Devil May Cry by the community on a regular basis. On the other hand, the game's director himself has previously talked about being influenced by Ninja Gaiden and Bayonetta, in addition to the two games mentioned above.
