After nine long years in development, Lost Soul Aside is finally out on both PS5 and PC, and, despite some flaws, it’s already one of the most fun and addictive hack-and-slash experiences on the market right now. The combat system is solid and the encounters against regular enemies are challenging, but the best part of this entire game is its vast collection of boss fights.
Whether they’re regular-sized human warriors or massive Voidrax monsters, every single boss in Lost Soul Aside has its own collection of flashy and powerful attacks that will put Kaser’s (and, by extension, the player’s) combat abilities to the test. Needless to say, there are a lot of challenging boss fights in Lost Soul Aside, but the following eight are the hardest ones in the entire game.
Lost Soul Aside: Best Skills To Unlock First
There are a few skills in Lost Soul Aside that stand out as must-haves, and should be unlocked as soon as possible.
Lord GoldenLion
The First Real Challenge in Kaser’s Adventure
- Fought in: Mount Salvation
- Number of HP bars: 2
- Recommended Weapon: Sword
While the early hours of Lost Soul Aside are full of exciting encounters, Kaser won’t face the first real boss until he meets Lord GoldenLion in Mount Salvation. All of Seleria’s knights have their own unique battle abilities, and, in GoldenLion’s case, he can make himself bigger and summon golden clones of himself.
This boss fight is the game’s first real challenge, because taking him down will require a lot more strategy than just mashing the attack button. His massive stomps cause constant shockwaves that can be tricky to dodge or block; his “soccer ball” attack is nearly impossible to parry that early in the game, and the lightning he summons when he’s low on health can deal massive damage. Obviously enough, there are way harder bosses later in Lost Soul Aside’s story mode, but Lord GoldenLion stands out for being the first one that forces players to learn the ins and outs of the combat system.
Zana
A Strong Warrior with Many Quick Attacks
- Fought in: Mistwood
- Number of HP bars: 3
- Recommended Weapon: Poleblade
On his journey through Mistwood, Kaser will have to face several powerful warriors who were corrupted by Voidrax energy, including his friend and ally, Zana. However, this is easier said than done, because the ensuing battle is one of the toughest ones in the entire game.
Zana is not only very powerful, but her fast-paced fighting style makes her attacks unpredictable, and they are really hard to either block or avoid. To make things even worse, the cherry blossom bombs she leaves around the battlefield deal a lot of damage and can heavily restrict Kaser’s movement. In her final phase, Zana will even hide in the mist to try and catch him by surprise, so players need to pay attention and get the timing of the perfect block right if they want to parry it and get a chance to drain her final health bar.
Buckhorn Spirit Dragon
A Ruthless Encounter Against a Beautiful Legendary Beast
- Fought in: Skycrest Badlands
- Number of HP bars: 3
- Recommended Weapon: Sword
After hearing about the existence of the Buckhorn Spirit Dragon throughout the entirety of the Skycrest Badlands level, it was very satisfying to not only meet it but also face it in a surprisingly challenging battle. At first, this seems like a regular fight against a big monster, but things get exponentially worse for the player when the Spirit Dragon grows two wings on its back.
Lost Soul Aside: 8 Best Arena Powers, Ranked
Out of the twelve available Arena Powers in Lost Soul Aside, the following are the strongest. Here's what they do.
Kaser will have to destroy Voidrax crystals that are scattered throughout the battlefield and then proceed to avoid or block a flurry of destructive elemental projectiles — like a lightning storm or a shower of ice blasts — all while the Spirit Dragon keeps unleashing physical attacks with its claws, tail, and horns. This battle can feel overwhelming at times, but if the player pays proper attention to their surroundings, they will be able to successfully tame this legendary beast.
Mysterious Monster
One of the Most Powerful Voidrax Creatures in the Game
- Fought in: Skycrest Badlands
- Number of HP bars: 4
- Recommended Weapon: Sword
When some Imperial Soldiers are trying to attack Kaser on Skycrest Badlands, they accidentally shoot a giant statue with their battleship, and end up freeing a powerful Voidrax that was hiding within it, and it’s simply known as the Mysterious Monster. This boss has a really striking and cool-looking design, so it is no surprise that he has appeared in so much of this game’s promotional material.
Thankfully, its fighting prowess did not disappoint, because it’s definitely one of the hardest Voidrax bosses in Lost Soul Aside. The Mysterious Monster wields two powerful energy blades in battle and, due to its massive size, its combos reach a large area that makes them almost impossible to avoid or block. Moreover, when it’s at low health, this creature can summon even more blades that shoot lasers and slow down time, making it even harder to achieve victory against it. Fortunately, this extreme challenge is completely worth it, because this is also one of the most entertaining and engaging boss fights in the game.
Liquid Energy Entity
Fighting a Literal Body of Water Has Never Been So Challenging
- Fought in: Lethonix Dimension
- Number of HP bars: 1
- Recommended Weapon: Poleblade
Kaser has to face one of Aramon’s guards, the Liquid Energy Entity, at several points during his mission to retrieve the Crystal Shard in the Lethonix Dimension. After so much annoyance and frustration, he’ll finally get to face it in a one-on-one battle at the very end of the level, and, despite the boss’s seemingly innocuous appearance, it actually puts up a good fight.
The first phase of this battle is not too bad, since the Liquid Energy Entity’s attacks are slow and very easy to read, but things get a lot tougher during its second phase, when it turns into a giant human-like creature made of water. Its head becomes its only weak point, making it very hard for the player to actually land some hits on it without parrying or breaking its shield. On top of that, the Liquid Energy Entity does a good job at keeping some distance between itself and Kaser, by constantly spamming massive water-based attacks that cover a large radius, deal major damage, and push the playable character away.
Aramon
The Final Boss of the Game Presents a Worthy Challenge
- Fought in: Mount Salvation
- Number of HP bars: 3
- Recommended Weapon: Scythe
Aramon, the evil leader of the Voidrax army, is the main antagonist of Lost Soul Aside, and, after so much build-up throughout the main story, getting to fight him firsthand in a climactic final battle felt excellent. Of course, Kaser gets his most powerful form from Seleria and her knights right before their encounter, but this doesn’t make this boss fight any less hard.
As one would expect from the final boss of a character action game like this one, Aramon’s attacks are incredibly over-the-top, cinematic, and powerful. He’ll summon black holes that home in on Kaser and can drain his HP in seconds if the player is not careful, he’ll shoot triangle-shaped laser beams that cover a large area of effect, and he’ll even summon his final form that can kill Kaser if he doesn’t destroy the Voidrax crystals scattered across the battlefield. This challenging final boss will put everything that the player learned throughout their adventure to the test, which in turn, makes defeating Aramon all the more satisfying.
Victor
The Long-Awaited Clash Against Kaser’s Imperial Rival Did Not Disappoint
- Fought in: Skycrest Badlands
- Number of HP bars: 3
- Recommended Weapon: Sword
When Lost Soul Aside was originally announced in 2016, a specific part of its gameplay trailer stood out for depicting an intense battle between Kaser and a mysterious white knight that could summon a sea of magical golden swords. After so many years, this encounter was turned into the epic boss fight against Victor, and it certainly lived up to the hype.
As established by the original trailer, Victor’s main gimmick is his ability to summon a lot of golden swords that move around the battlefield while attacking Kaser. Due to this impressive ability, reading and blocking his attacks effectively is almost impossible, because sometimes it can be really hard to tell which sword will land the final hit on the playable character. While this is made up for by the fact that his shield is relatively easy to break, he has a lot of HP, and his shield bar refills fairly quickly, meaning that players only have a few seconds to deal damage before going back to his overwhelming carnival of flying swords. Despite the high level of difficulty, the battle against Victor is one of the best in the game, and it’s a real shame that he and Kaser never had a proper rematch.
Drogo
A Relentless “Soulslike” Boss in a Character Action Game
- Fought in: Frosthold Borderland
- Number of HP bars: 2
- Recommended Weapon: Greatsword
The battle against Drogo is one of the biggest surprises in Lost Soul Aside. At first, this seems like any other boss fight against a human boss, something that this game already has in spades, but it turned out to be much more challenging than expected. Drogo’s boss fight feels like something out of Dark Souls or Bloodborne, because defeating him requires a lot of precise blocking, careful dodging, and perfectly timed attacks.
Players should not be deceived by Drogo’s size and speed, because his attacks pack a big punch, and his shield bar is really hard to break. To make things even worse, it refills itself extremely quickly, giving Kaser just a few seconds to deal damage before he regains his energy and goes back to attacking. Drogo’s second phase is even more ruthless than the first, because he will use his ice-based powers to expand the reach of his sword, fire homing projectiles, and even shoot an icy spear that is almost impossible to dodge.
The best part of this encounter is that Drogo is not even a villain: he’s just testing Kaser to see if he can trust him to protect Frosthold Borderland after he deactivates the Storm-Walls, and he even passes away after he’s defeated. That’s right, Drogo is the hardest boss in the entire game, and he was just a dying old warrior. Players should be thankful that they didn’t have to face him during his prime.
