Lost Soul Aside officially launched on August 29, but the highly anticipated debut title from Ultizero Games is already facing criticism due to performance issues on PC. Published by PlayStation on both PC and PS5, Lost Soul Aside is a hack-and-slash action-adventure game featuring fast-paced combat that has been likened to games like Devil May Cry and Final Fantasy 16.
Lost Soul Aside was originally announced all the way back in 2014 as a solo project by Chinese developer Yang Bing. In the following years, he formed the Ultizero Games studio and partnered up with Sony to bring the game’s vision to life. Originally slated for a May 2025 release, Lost Soul Aside was delayed to August in a bid to give the studio more time to deliver a “high-quality game experience.” The news was received well by the community, with most urging the developers to take all the time needed to release the decade-long project in an ideal state.
Lost Soul Aside Has Good News for Fans
Developer Ultizero shares some good news with gamers looking forward to its upcoming and very long-awaited action RPG Lost Soul Aside.
Lost Soul Aside is Having a Rough Launch on Steam
In an unfortunate turn of events, however, it appears that Yang Bing’s dream project isn’t doing so well on PC. Currently, Lost Soul Aside is sitting at a “Mixed” rating on Steam, with 41% user reviews listing the game as “Not Recommended.” Performance issues like camera stutters, sudden FPS drops, and visual bugs are being cited as the main reasons why the game is being received so negatively. Most agree that the core gameplay loop of Lost Soul Aside offers incredible combat and stellar graphics, but the execution, at least on PC, falls short.
The developers appear to be aware of the issues though, as not only are they actively responding to negative reviews on Steam, but they have also released a Day 1 patch for Lost Soul Aside, aimed at improving performance. From the looks of it, however, it appears to have had little impact. Performance is not the only concern users have about the game, either, as rushed story pacing, jerky character movement, and unforgiving camera angles are also receiving flak. Even the game’s $70 price tag is earning scrutiny, as many reviewers hold the opinion it should’ve been closer to $40 instead.
On SteamDB, Lost Soul Aside’s player count chart paints a disappointing picture, showing the game barely managing to break the 3,000 mark on its first day of release. The PlayStation version, on the other hand, appears to be faring a lot better, as the game currently has a 4.11/5 average star rating on the platform with 1.1k reviews. Many are attributing the disparity between the two versions to Unreal Engine, but that hasn’t been confirmed by the developers.
For those on the fence, Lost Soul Aside offers a free demo on both PC and PS5 for players to try, allowing those with less powerful rigs to try the game before committing to a purchase. Additionally, Sony has also removed Lost Soul Aside’s region-lock restrictions on PC, making the game more widely available.
