Orcs are one of the main enemies that players will encounter in Lord of the Rings: Return to Moria. These corrupted creatures are servants of Morgoth, the Dark Lord, and share his ambition to dominate Middle-earth. Following the Dwarves’ exile from Khazad-dûm, Orcs took over the abandoned halls of Moria.
These humanoid creatures are often found in large numbers and occupy several Orc Camps throughout Moria. At the center of each Orc Camp, players can find two important components – Orkish Chests and Orc Banners. Orkish Chests play an essential role in Return to Moria, but some players might find them challenging to unlock.
How to Open Orkish Chests in Return to Moria
Players come across Orkish Chests once they get access to the second area in the game – The Elven Quarters. These halls are filled with numerous Orc Camps, each containing an Orkish Chest. The first step for players is to clear the camp by eliminating any Orcs and Wolves they encounter.
Once they’re done defeating the enemies, players should use their Axe or Pickaxe to destroy the wooden Orc Banner located at the camp's center. Doing so will disable the camp, preventing any further Orcs or Goblins from spawning in that area. Additionally, destroying this Banner will drop an Orc Key.
Players can choose to avoid unnecessary combat by directly breaking the wooden totem, causing all enemies to vanish instantly.
Orc Keys are special keys that are designed to open Orkish Chests in Return to Moria. Players can pick up this Key by pressing E on their keyboard. As they approach an Orkish Chest, players can press E once more to unlock it using the Orc Key.
Alternatively, players can smash an Orkish Chest open by repeatedly hitting it with an Axe or Pickaxe. However, this might take over a hundred swings, which is quite tedious and time-consuming.
Orkish Chests hold a variety of valuable and useful items inside, such as:
- Muznakan Cravings
- Black Diamonds
- Gold Coins
- Gemstones like Sapphire, Jade, Iolite
- Different metal Ingots
- Different metal Ores
- Meat
Unfortunately, players may not find any Black Diamonds in the Orkish Chests in the Elven Quarters. However, they are more common in the next section: The Western Halls.
