While playing Return to Moria, players sometimes encounter a purple mist that gradually kills the character on contact. At first, there is no way to get rid of it, so fans have to look for ways to get around it. Over time, it will become more and more difficult to do so, so players will be forced to look for ways to get rid of these cursed shadows.
Fortunately, there are 3 effective methods to dispel the fog, and all of them are Durin's legacy. In this guide, players will learn what the best ways to remove purple shadows in LotR: Return to Moria are and how to use each of them.
Rebuild Durin’s Lamps
Durin's Lamps are the first method that will be available to players, as they can be found simply by exploring Moria at a fairly early stage of the game. These lamps need to be rebuilt to function, and fans should have Ihratz Granite and True-Quartz with them to do so. After rebuilding Durin's Lamp, the dwarf should sing an inspiring tune, and the purple mist around him will dissipate.
In addition, if players rebuild the Durin Statue in Baranzibar, they will unlock the Durin's Lamp recipe, allowing them to place them anywhere. Here's the recipe for Durin's Lamp:
- 1 Sun-stone
- 6 True-quartz
- 4 Khazad Steel Ingot
- 15 Adamant
Activate Durin’s Monuments
Durin's Monuments are not as widespread as Durin's Lamps, so players will most likely find their first one in the Lower Deeps. Activating Durin's Monument also requires the dwarf to sing a song. After that, the purple fog will disappear, and the character will receive the undaunted buff.
Reforge Durin’s Axe
Durin's Axe is the most difficult to obtain, but it is the best way to get rid of the purple mist. Having this tool with them, players will always be able to dispel the shadows anywhere, but for this, they need to collect 5 fragments of Durin's Axe. The location of each fragment is listed below.
- In the Western Halls in the Westgate area, there is a building with two staircases. The first fragment is on the second floor of this building.
- In the Mines of Moria, in The Second Hall, look for a hidden door that will lead to the second fragment.
- The third fragment can be found in the Lower Deeps. It lies on The Bridge of Khazad-dum under the debris.
- In Dwarrowdelf, in The Chamber of Mazarbul, players will find the fourth fragment. However, they will have to defeat a troll to get to the chest with the fragment.
- The fifth fragment is located in the Barazinbar. Players should look at the top of the spiral staircase in the area of The Endless Stair.
When players collect all 5 fragments, they will be able to reforge Durin's Axe with the following materials:
- 1 Fine Leather.
- 3 Durinul Iron Ingot.
- 3 Sun-Stone.
- 4 Ironwood.
