Summary

  • Walmart is reportedly canceling pre-orders for Luigi's Mansion 2 HD.
  • A similar situation happened with Paper Mario: The Thousand-Year Door last month.
  • Here's hoping future Switch games avoid these pre-order issues.

Walmart is reportedly canceling pre-orders for Luigi's Mansion 2 HD for unknown reasons. Luigi's Mansion 2 HD is set to be the next major first-party Nintendo game release. Set to launch on June 27, Luigi's Mansion 2 HD is a remastered version of the 3DS game Luigi's Mansion: Dark Moon, with its main selling point being its upgraded graphics.

A new Luigi's Mansion 2 HD trailer was dropped at the latest Nintendo Direct event, but with the game's release date right around the corner, it's no surprise that Nintendo didn't spend a ton of time focusing on it. After all, Luigi's Mansion 2 HD doesn't seem to be making all that many drastic changes to the core Dark Moon experience. Regardless, fans are looking forward to the HD version of the game, and some may have already pre-ordered their copy. Unfortunately, if they pre-ordered the game from Walmart, they may be running into an unexpected issue.

According to a new report by Go Nintendo, some Luigi's Mansion 2 HD Walmart pre-orders are being canceled. No reason has been given for the cancellation, but Walmart is supposedly giving those impacted by the cancelations a discount code that gives them $25 off their next purchase over $45 to make up for it. It's odd enough that Luigi's Mansion 2 HD pre-orders are seemingly getting canceled, but what's even more concerning is that this isn't the first time something like this has happened with a Nintendo game.

Some Luigi's Mansion 2 HD Pre-Orders Canceled by Walmart

Just last month, something similar happened with Paper Mario: The Thousand-Year Door, the Switch remake of the beloved GameCube RPG. Nintendo fans took to social media to complain about their Paper Mario: The Thousand-Year Door pre-orders being canceled, though it was unclear exactly how widespread the problem was. Similarly, we don't know how many Walmart shoppers are being impacted by the Luigi's Mansion 2 HD pre-order cancelations, or why this has happened to major first-party Nintendo games for two months in a row. On a more optimistic note, there were reports of canceled Paper Mario pre-orders being shipped anyway, so maybe Luigi's Mansion 2 HD fans will get lucky as well.

Hopefully, future Nintendo games are able to avoid these issues with pre-orders. Thanks to the Nintendo Direct, there are many high-profile new Nintendo releases to look forward to this year, like The Legend of Zelda: Echoes of Wisdom on September 26, Super Mario Party Jamboree on October 17, and Mario & Luigi: Brothership on November 7. Potential pre-order bonuses have yet to be revealed for these games, but when pre-orders do go live, here's hoping that none of them get canceled by Walmart.
