Yet another EA game is confirmed to be shutting down this year, with Madden NFL 22 on the chopping block for October 20. EA keeps a list of all its games that are shutting down, with the list updated regularly. This way, fans of EA's titles know exactly when certain games are having their servers shuttered, giving them a chance to play the games as much as possible ahead of the shutdown date.
EA's shutdowns in 2025 have been particularly disappointing for fans. January 2025 started the year off on a depressing note when The Simpsons: Tapped Out was shut down alongside Rory McIlroy PGA Tour and seven mobile games. Then in February, UFC 3 was shut down, followed by EA Sports UFC Mobile 2 and NCAA 14 in March.
Madden NFL 25 Gets Hefty Update
Madden 25 receives one of its largest updates to date, adding over 800 playbook changes along with some new customization features.
Unfortunately for football fans, NCAA 14 shutting down isn't the last football title that's getting the axe in 2025. EA previously confirmed Madden NFL 21 was shutting down on June 30, but now it's been announced that Madden NFL 22's servers will be shut down this year as well. Anyone interested in enjoying the game's online multiplayer functionality should note that it will cease to exist on October 20, 2025. From that point forward, Madden NFL 22's offline modes will be the only thing available to play in the game, cutting fans off from experiencing all its game modes and unlocking all its achievements/trophies.

Madden NFL 22 shutting down is definitely disappointing for Madden fans, but the bright side is that newer games in the series will remain operational after that date. Madden NFL 23, 24, and 25 will still have online functionality after Madden NFL 22 is shut down, so there will still be multiple options for online multiplayer football games.
Plus, there is a new Madden game on the horizon. Madden NFL 26 is set to launch on August 14, and it will even be available for the Nintendo Switch 2. A month prior, EA Sports College Football 26 will hit store shelves on July 10.
