Summary

  • Madden NFL 25's most recent patch focuses on gameplay fixes, with a focus on defensive players.
  • The update also addresses problems with Speed Boost and an issue with Curl Flat zone depth.
  • EA is continuing to tweak the game, which currently has mixed reviews on Steam.

Electronic Arts has rolled out a new update for Madden NFL 25. The patch is aimed at gameplay fixes and addressing player feedback, eliminating several issues across different positions, with defensive players seeing the biggest impact. This is the second update for Madden NFL 25 in September alone, indicating that the game still has quite a few problems to iron out.

Madden NFL 25 is the 36th installment in the iconic American football series. The game was released on August 16, 2024, but wasn't very well-received by the public at launch. On Steam, Madden NFL 25 received mixed reviews, with many complaints involving issues with using controllers on PC, as well as gripes about the gameplay. Players reported that important plays were constantly failing because athletes lacked awareness of their surroundings, and the playbook in Madden NFL 25 was far more complicated than in previous games, confusing players rather than helping them.

Since the release of Madden NFL 25, Electronic Arts has continued rolling out new updates to address some of these issues while considering player feedback. The current update fixes several recurring gameplay issues, resolving two situations involving Speed Boost. The first Madden NFL 25 update of the month also fixed problems with the Speed Boost, but the developers had warned that it would be tweaked again in a future update.

The current patch also addresses an issue with Curl Flat zone depth, which concerns the outside edge players in a Cover 3 zone defense. When players in the zone depth were set at less than 15 yards, coach adjustments weren't working correctly. Additionally, Curl Flat defenders continued to drift away from a nearby threat, marking another issue that has also been resolved. Overall, this update fixes some issues with Madden NFL 25's technically-improved gameplay. Still, early September patch notes mentioned that the team is still working on other problems found in the title.

Madden NFL 25 continues to see mixed reviews on Steam, indicating that the developers still have a lot of work ahead to improve the experience for players. Last week, Electronic Arts announced a free trial period for Madden NFL 25, allowing all players to try the game from September 5th through September 8th, coinciding with the start of the 2024 NFL season.

The game hasn't won over fans quite as much as another American football game by Electronic Arts, College Football 2025. When compared side by side, players prefer College Football 25 over Madden NFL 25, but the former wasn't released on PC, leaving fans of football sims little choice but to stick with Madden.
