Mafia: Definitive Edition is a remaster of the cult classic original game in the Mafia franchise. The Mafia games have always been more grounded and realistic than their other open world game counterparts. The city of Lost Heaven isn't as big as modern games, and acts as a backdrop to a cinematic mob story. After completing the first chapter, you can play in the Free Ride mode to explore the city at your own speed. There are a few achievements that are easy to miss while playing through each chapter. The Lined Pockets achievement/trophy requires you to pay a fine to the police. This guide will explain how you can do so without ending up in jail or dead in the street in Mafia: Definitive Edition.

Lost Heaven Policemafia-definitive-edition-police

The police in the city of Lost Heaven are always on patrol. This includes squad cars and on-foot cops that will be on the sidewalk. There is a wanted system that can go up to five stars. You can choose between two versions of police enforcement in the settings.

The "Regular" police setting will make sure they only come after Tommy if he harms the citizens of Lost Heaven. The "Simulation" police settings will make sure that you can gain a wanted level by breaking traffic laws like speeding. You'll want to switch this setting to simulation, as it will make getting the achievement way easier. Here are the various star levels and the corresponding police response in Mafia: Definitive Edition.

  • 1 Star - The police will write a ticket for smaller crimes. The icon above the minimap is a ticket.
  • 2 Stars - The police will arrest Tommy. The icon is a pair of handcuffs.
  • 3 Stars - The police will shoot at Tommy on sight. The icon is a gun.
  • 4 Stars - The police will bring reinforcements with varied weapons. The icon is a scope.
  • 5 Stars - The police will call in even more reinforcements. The icon is a skull.

How to Pay a Fine

Switch the police setting to simulation. Drive around the city and speed or break traffic laws in front of a cop to get their attention. You'll want to attract at least one police car.

Make sure the wanted level stays at one with the ticket icon over the minimap. Be careful not to harm any citizens or police as you may jump quickly to two or three stars. Calmly pull over and let the cop car park in front of you. Get out of your car and let the police write you a ticket. Tommy will pay the fine, and you'll receive the Lined Pockets achievement in Mafia: Definitive Edition.
