Mafia: The Old Country will feature several graphical enhancements on the PS5 Pro at launch, according to developer Hangar 13 and publisher 2K. The first entry in the main Mafia series in nearly a decade, Mafia: The Old Country will serve as a prequel to the original 2002 title, transporting players to Sicily to discover the origins of the city's organized crime syndicate.
Work on a new Mafia entry was confirmed in 2022, but the upcoming title wasn't properly revealed until a teaser trailer appeared during Gamescom Opening Night Live in 2024, with a full trailer popping up at The Game Awards several months later. More details surrounding Mafia: The Old Country's content were shared in May, with the game confirmed to take place in 1905 and promising to include the extreme violence and adult content that many fans of the series had been hoping for. Now, only days away from launch, gamers wanting to experience the action-adventure title in its full glory may want to look to Sony's boosted PS5 console.
Mafia: The Old Country Release Time & Date
For most players, Mafia: The Old Country will be released at midnight on August 8. Here are the release times for your region and platform of choice.
Mafia: The Old Country Will Be PS5 Pro Enhanced at Launch
In a new Twitter post, 2K and Hangar 13 confirmed that Mafia: The Old Country will be PS5 Pro Enhanced at launch on August 8. Players can enjoy support for 120Hz displays and Variable Refresh Rate, along with higher dynamic resolution in both Quality and Performance modes, with the latter previously confirmed to run at an average of 60 FPS on the base PS5. Those eager to snag the highly anticipated title this Friday won't need to break the bank to do it, as Mafia: The Old Country's Standard Edition is priced at only $49.99.
While promising to bring back many popular aspects of previous games in the series, Mafia: The Old Country won't be set in an open world, instead following a linear format with a more narrative-driven focus. The story will follow Enzo Favara, who, after growing up as an indentured servant in Sicily's sulfur mines, goes on to join the Torrisi crime family. Earlier this year, it was announced that the game would include an option for Sicilian voice acting, with Hanger 13 partnering with the Italian studio Stormind Games to ensure authenticity.
While longtime fans of the franchise are eager to snag the title later this week, Mafia: The Old Country may be overshadowed by the recently announced Battlefield 6 open beta. The Early Access beta period for EA's next entry in the long-running series runs from August 7-8, while Weekend 1 follows quickly on August 9 and 10.
