A new leak from Magic: the Gathering has reportedly revealed the four pre-constructed Commander Decks set to be released alongside the Marvel Super Heroes expansion. The beloved trading card game from Wizards of the Coast has already kicked off 2026 with a bang, launching its first in-universe set of the year. Magic: the Gathering debuted Lorwyn Eclipsed on January 23, bringing the game back to the beloved Lorwyn and Shadowmoor planes for the first time since 2008's Eventide. Now, a big crossover planned to arrive later this year is being teased.

Magic: the Gathering's continued expansion of its "Universes Beyond" initiative is set to bring a multitude of new collabs to the game. Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles is scheduled to be the first big crossover set of the year, with several TMNT cards accidentally leaked through Lorwyn Eclipsed's pre-release. Marvel will get its own new collaboration with Marvel Super Heroes in June, while the second half of 2026 will welcome new sets based on The Hobbit and Star Trek. New leaks are now giving fans an early look at the set of Commander Decks planned to release with Magic's newest Marvel crossover.

I Know Magic: The Gathering "Shadow Nerfing" An OP Lorwyn Eclipsed Commander is a Good Thing, But It's Part of a Bigger Problem

Magic: The Gathering is already "nerfing" its most popular Lorwyn Eclipsed commander before release, which shows the cracks in the game's rules.

Magic: The Gathering Has Four Marvel Commander Decks Coming

A new leak shared to the Magic: the Gathering subreddit has both revealed the four Commander decks for Marvel Super Heroes and teased the themes of the decks. The "Avengers Assemble" deck looks to feature Captain America as the Commander, with the box hinting that the deck will play largely around Equipment cards and +1/+1 counters. "Doom Prevails" centers around draining your opponent's life and the Connive mechanic, featuring Doctor Doom as its Commander card. The Marvel expansion will include a Fantastic Four precon supposedly centered on "protection" and noncreature Spells, while the Black Panther "Wakanda Forever" deck suggests that it will play heavily around Artifacts and utilize the Monarch mechanic. Magic: the Gathering's Marvel Super Heroes expansion is scheduled to release in June 2026.

  • Avengers Assemble: Captain America, White-Blue-Red, Equipment and +1/+1 counter-based
  • Doom Prevails: Doctor Doom, Blue-Black-Red, focused on draining life and Connive
  • The Fantastic Four: Fantastic Four, White-Blue-Red-Green, noncreature spells and protection fields
  • Wakanda Forever: Black Panther, White-Green, focused on Artifacts and Monarch

Magic's new Marvel Commander decks look to run a wide range of strategies for players to try out their favorite heroes. Captain America will likely play similarly to the previously-released Secret Lair Captain America card, which can attach and detach Equipments to deal direct damage. Doom Prevails should expand on the Villain creature type first introduced in the Spider-Man expansion, giving players plenty more options to fill out their decks. The Fantastic Four deck will likely prioritize keeping your creatures safe, using the protection cards available in White and Blue. The Black Panther deck could look to bring some particularly interesting gameplay within its unique cards, given its focus on the lesser-used Monarch mechanic.

Magic: the Gathering Has Lots Planned for 2026

Magic: The Gathering's exciting new Marvel decks look to be just a small part of a big year coming for the TCG. The upcoming Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles set has seen loads of new cards revealed ahead of its launch, with Wizards of the Coast officially showing all the Rare and Mythic Rare cards from the set. While the company has not shown off much from sets coming later in 2026, The Hobbit is expected to be another smash hit for Magic: the Gathering, following in the footsteps of the hugely successful Lord of the Rings expansion.

Magic: the Gathering is Officially Teaming Up with Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles

Universes Beyond is not all that Wizards of the Coast has planned for the year, with multiple in-universe sets also on the way. April will welcome the launch of Secrets of Strixhaven as the second Magic universe set of the year, returning to the popular plane last featured in 2021's Strixhaven: School of Mages. Magic: the Gathering will also debut the mysterious Reality Fracture expansion in October 2026, though little has been revealed about the set. Magic: the Gathering fans should keep an eye on Wizards of the Coast, with lots of exciting new sets and cards planned to arrive throughout 2026.
