Magic: The Gathering recently revealed three new Green Goblin-themed Spider-Man cards, including Pumpkin Bombardment, Rocket-Powered Goblin Glider, and Oscorp Industries. Using the iconic Spider-Man villain’s weapon, vehicle, and home base, Magic: The Gathering players can spread both mayhem and destruction in their decks.
Over the last few years, Magic: The Gathering has been traveling to all sorts of different universes, from Doctor Who and Transformers to Dungeons and Dragons and Final Fantasy. Its next entry in the Universes Beyond MTG series is called Marvel’s Spider-Man, adding the friendly neighborhood superhero and his rogues' gallery to the trading card game as its 107th card set.
Three Magic: The Gathering Final Fantasy Cards Are Already Some of the Best Commanders Ever
Magic: The Gathering players looking to build a Commander deck based on the new Final Fantasy cards have three perfect candidates to choose from.
Reveal season is in full swing for this Magic: The Gathering set, and three of these new cards look to be a blast to use. IGN recently revealed a set of cards inspired by the Green Goblin, including the Pumpkin Bombardment Sorcery, Rocket-Powered Goblin Glider Equipment, and Oscorp Industries Land, depicting the villain’s weapons of choice, his signature vehicle, and his base of operations, respectively.
Green Goblin Gear in Magic: The Gathering x Spider-Man
- Pumpkin Bombardment
- Rocket-Powered Goblin Glider
- Oscorp Industries
Each of these cards either uses or synergize with the Mayhem keyword, which lets one play the card from the graveyard if it was discarded on the same turn. Four different versions of the Green Goblin himself are coming in this set – a Norman Osborn who transforms into the classic Green Goblin, Green Goblin, Nemesis, Ultimate Green Goblin, and Green Goblin, Revenant – all of which also utilize the same keyword and discard mechanics in the Blue, Black, and Red colors. These cards alone could make a powerful deck, especially when combined with existing Goblin cards in Magic: The Gathering.
There have been some other exciting card reveals for Marvel’s Spider-Man recently as well. The Death of Gwen Stacy, an MTG card depicting one of Spider-Man’s most heartbreaking scenes, was revealed recently, along with the Friendly Neighborhood Aura Enchantment and Villainous Wrath Sorcery. The Final Fantasy Magic: The Gathering set may have set a high bar for Universes Beyond, but with so many iconic heroes, villains, and moments from the popular comic series, Spider-Man may just have what it takes to surpass it.
Marvel’s Spider-Man officially comes to Magic: The Gathering on September 26. While the majority of the cards in this set have now been revealed, there are still some that have not been seen yet. Fans can expect the rest of this card set to be revealed within the next few weeks ahead of its release.
