Magic: The Gathering Reveals Spider-Man Cards

Wizards of the Coast unveils the highly-anticipated new Magic: The Gathering x Marvel's Spider-Man collection, coming to stores globally in Fall 2025.

A new post from Wizards of the Coast is now showing off some of the Spider-Man expansion's new mechanics coming to the game. Magic's Spider-Man set will introduce a new "Web-Slinging" mechanic, allowing players to play cards for an alternative cost by also returning a tapped creature to their hand. "Mayhem" allows players to cast a card from their graveyard if they discarded it from their hand during the turn while the new "The Soul Stone" card introduces the "Harness" ability, permanently unlocking an ability by paying its initial cost. Spider-Man is also bringing back some older Magic mechanics, including "Connive," double-sided cards, and "Modified creatures."

Magic: the Gathering Details New Spider-Man Mechanics

Magic The Gathering x Spider-Man Crossover San Diego Comic Con SDCC 2025
  • Web-Slinging: You may cast cards with Web-Slinging for an alternative cost if you also return a tapped creature you control to its owner's hand.
  • Mayhem: You may cast cards with Mayhem from your graveyard for an alternative cost if you discarded it during the same turn. Timing rules still apply.
  • Connive: Draw a card, then discard a card. If you discard a nonland card, put a +1/+1 counter on that creature.
  • Double-Sided Cards with Transform: Double-sided cards with Transform can be played on either side, with one side having an ability to transform into the other side.
  • Modified Creatures: Equipment, Auras you control, and counters are modifications.

The plethora of new mechanics in the Spider-Man set look to see a wide variety of uses across the set's different cards. Many of the Spider-Man variants in the set utilize Web-Slinging, allowing players to quickly play more powerful creatures by swinging into action. The introduction of The Soul Stone also heavily implies future cards based on the Infinity Stones, with more Marvel expansions confirmed to be coming in 2026. Magic: the Gathering's Spider-Man set will officially release on September 26.
