Magic: The Gathering Announces New Untold Stories Comic Series About Jace Beleren

The next of these comics has been announced as Magic: The Gathering: Untold Stories—Jace. As the name suggests, it follows Jace Beleren, a powerful Planeswalker and mind mage. According to Dark Horse Comics and Wizards of the Coast, this is a new four-issue miniseries, with the first installment being released on February 4, 2026. While fans will have to wait until next year to get their hands on a copy, Issue #1 of Untold Stories—Jace can be pre-ordered now at local comic shops for $4.99. Additionally, the publisher has shared several covers for Issue #1 by Caitlin Yarsky, Francesco Francavilla, and Aleksi Briclot, giving readers an idea of what might await them in the upcoming series.

Magic: The Gathering: Untold Stories—Jace is written by Michael W. Conrad, an Eisner Award-winning author, and features illustration by Yarsky. The comic series is also lettered by Clayton Cowles and colored by Alex Guimarães. While not many details are known about the plot, Untold Stories—Jace will deal with the mind mage’s past and lost memories. According to the publisher, these memories detail a plot by his mentor, Tezzeret, that could alter Magic: The Gathering's Multiverse. Conrad also touched on the excitement of writing for Jace: "Beyond that, the lore surrounding him has captured my imagination, and has refused to let go.”

While fans wait for Issue #1 to release, it is worth noting that this will be the second installment in the larger Untold Stories series. Previously, Dark Horse Comics published a four-issue miniseries that focused on Elspeth. This installment of Untold Stories dealt with the character's story in the underworld, and it could help satiate readers while they await Jace's tale next year.

Besides the comic books, there are other things coming soon from the Magic: The Gathering franchise. Specifically, Secret Lair drops inspired by PlayStation heroes will be released on October 27, with the addition of Ghost of Yotei’s Atsu recently being announced. As these upcoming Secret Lair drops and comic series show, fans have a lot to look forward to.
