Out of all the Star Wars TV shows Disney has churned out over the years, The Mandalorian is without a doubt one of the most successful ones. This western-inspired, Jon Favreau-led series became a cultural phenomenon when it debuted in late 2019. Back then, The Mandalorian dominated the internet, what with all the Baby Yoda memes and GIFs that crowded social media. Funny photos aside, though, the first season of the series was incredibly well-received; it garnered glowing reviews not only from critics, but from fans, too. The overall quality of the show was quite impressive, especially considering it was Disney's first attempt at making a live-action Star Wars TV series.
Ever since Mando made his way to the silver screen, many devoted Star Wars fans have been asking Disney and Lucasfilm to make a Mandalorian game. Frankly, it's no wonder why this is so highly-requested. From his stoic, no-nonsense attitude and his face-covering helmet to his profession as a bounty hunter, the Mandalorian already looks like the perfect video game protagonist. Even though making a game based on the character seems like an obvious idea, such a title has yet to be created. It's possible that, since the future of The Mandalorian series appears uncertain, some developers may think it's too late to cash in on the success of the show, but a potential game revolving around the titular bounty hunter still hasn't missed the boat.

Various Spin-Offs of The Mandalorian Are in the Works
Although a new episode of The Mandalorian hasn't aired since April 2023, the hit series has branched off with multiple spin-off projects, such as the 2021 miniseries The Book of Boba Fett, the 2023 show Ahsoka, and the upcoming 2024 coming-of-age series Skeleton Crew. Additionally, a feature film that serves as a direct sequel to The Mandalorian, dubbed The Mandalorian & Grogu, is currently in the works, with a release slated for May 22, 2026. While recent rumors seem to suggest that season four of The Mandalorian has been shelved in favor of this movie, it's clear that there won't be any shortage of Mandalorian-related content for the foreseeable future.
A Mandalorian Video Game Could Take Advantage of Cross-Media Promotion
If a new Mandalorian game is in development, it would be wise to release the title alongside one of the upcoming projects set in the series' timeline. The Mandalorian & Grogu film, for instance, is coming out in approximately 2 years, and it'd be a great candidate for a contiguous video game launch. If a publisher or developer can get a Mandalorian title out by 2026, then they can potentially benefit from some major cross-media promotion. Not only will the sales of this hypothetical game increase because of this, but viewership for the upcoming Mandalorian movie may increase as well.
Even Though a Previous Attempt to Make a Mandalorian Game Was Canceled, The Premise Still Has Potential
There was supposedly a Mandalorian game, at one point, that could've launched alongside this film. Earlier this year, multiple insider reports alleged that Respawn Entertainment, the EA subsidiary behind Titanfall 2 and the SW: Jedi games, was working on a first-person Star Wars starring the aforementioned bounty hunter. Due to a devastating wave of layoffs that hit the company in February, however, the Mandalorian game was apparently canceled. Around the same time, EA expressed its intent to move away from the use of licensed IPs in its video games, which likely contributed to the axing of the project.
Taking this cancelation into account, there's a strong possibility that a Mandalorian title won't be released in 2026 or anytime in the near future. If this happens, it probably won't be able to capitalize on the release of The Mandalorian & Grogu or any other currently-announced project set in the same subseries. Even still, the Mandalorian name and the bounty hunter premise alone would likely be enough to carry the game, with or without cross-media promotion.
