Governing a medieval village in Manor Lords goes beyond just securing supply production and economic growth. Lords should also prepare to fend off bandits and raiders by raising a battle-ready militia. Adequately armed soldiers increase the chances of winning even the toughest battles, so it’s paramount for every lord to ensure an excellent arsenal for their army.

While players can import weapons and armor for a significantly higher cost, an effective strategy is to learn to produce them at home. Players who aren’t sure about how weapon and armor crafting works in Manor Lords should find this guide helpful.

Levying taxes from citizens is central to growing personal income in Manor Lords. This guide teaches how to use this mechanic in your favor.

Considerations Before Crafting Weapons & Armor

Upgrading burgage plot to level 2 for extension into blacksmithing

Like every resource in Manor Lords, weapons and armor are also crafted by the citizens. These citizens take on the role of armorers and blacksmiths to meet the militia’s needs. The following are a few important details worth considering before crafting weapons and armor:

  • Ensure the settlement’s population has at least over 40 male citizens, as the militia is formed by male soldiers.
  • Upgrade four burgage plots to level 2.
  • Set up an iron mine
  • Unlock Deep Mining industrial skill by spending a development point to mine unlimited iron ore.
  • Unlock Basic Armormaking skill by investing a development point to craft helmets.
  • Establish a Bloomery, found under the industry section of the construction hotbar.
  • Extend a level 2 burgage plot to Blacksmith's workshop to smith weapons.
  • Extend a level 2 burgage plot to Armorer’s workshop to make helmets and armor.
  • Extend a level 2 burgage plot to Fletcher’s workshop to produce bows and polearms.
  • Extend a level 2 burgage plot to Joiner’s workshop to build shields.

Extending a burgage plot to blacksmithing, armorer, or fletcher converts the inhabitants into artisans. These people remain tied to their newly assigned roles and cannot participate in other construction activities.

How To Make Weapons

Showcasing extension of burgage plot to blacksmith

Weapons are crafted by blacksmiths, joiners, and fletchers. Crafting most weapons in Manor Lords requires a consistent supply of planks and iron slabs. Planks are produced in sawpits, while iron slabs are smelted in bloomeries.

Once the supply of planks and iron slabs is secured, players can expect the following workshops to produce the respective weapons:

  • Blacksmith’s Workshop: Produce swords, spears, polearms, and tools.
  • Fletcher’s Workshop: Produce bows and arrows.
  • Joiner’s Workshop: Produce wooden parts, small shields, and great shields.

How To Make Armor

Development Points tree in Manor Lords

Crafting armor in Manor Lords involves spending a development point on Basic Armormaking, under the industry section, which enables armorers to craft helmets.

To expand the armorer’s scope of crafting, players can consider investing two additional development points, each under Advanced Armormaking and Master Armormaking, to craft chain mail and plate armor, respectively.

Higher levels of armor greatly increase the army’s defenses. Moreover, armor can be exported as a commodity to generate regional wealth.

If required, players can also extend another level 2 burgage plot into Cobbler’s workshop, which produces boots.

Since making armor and weapons requires gathering and conversion of resources, meeting those demands in a short time can prove challenging.

To prevent overproduction, the game includes a handy feature to pause production. Outlined below are easy-to-follow instructions on pausing a workshop from overproducing weapons or armor:

  • Click the workshop to pull up the context menu.
  • Look for the blue bar at the top of the menu.
  • Click the pause button, indicated by two perpendicular lines.

This will effectively pause the workshop’s production until players manually resume it.
