As the daily Wordle puzzle continues to challenge players from around the world, some may find themselves in need of hints or guidance to solve the five-letter mystery word. Some might need help with the rules, with some strategy for winning Wordle, or even just some clues to the answer.

How To Play Wordle

The original version of Wordle, and the subject of this article, is the New York Times Games version. While there are tons of Wordle clones out there, they will all have different answers than what is listed here, and some might even have slightly different rules for how to play.

The first things players have to do is choose a starting word. This word needs to follow a few rules to be used and help players be as successful as possible.

Wordle answers and guesses must be real words that are five letters long.
Players cannot use proper nouns or offensive words as guesses.
Answers and guesses can have duplicated letters in them, like VIVID.
While they can be used as guesses, plural nouns ending in S and old answers cannot be the answer today, so they are best avoided.
Players will want to pick words with a good distribution of common letters.

After a starter is chosen, type it into the Wordle site or app using the onboard or device's keyboard. Press enter. This will cause the letters of the word to change colors.

When letters become green, they are right.
Gray letters are wrong.
Yellow letters are right but in the wrong place in the word.

Given these clues, try a new word and get even more clues. Players have a total of six guesses to get to the answer. There is only one puzzle word per day, and new ones are available daily at midnight local time.
